asking reviews for 2 cues

I went to a billiard store the other day and tried 2 different brand of cues. McDermott and Falcon (aristocrat series). The feel of center ball hit was nice for both of em but I wasn't allowed to put chalk on 'em so I couldn't put any english on the rock.

What I'm asking is which one gives more 'whip' on the cue ball with english.

Which one has the less deflection and curve?

and ultimately, quality overall. Any issues with falcon or McDermott? you tell me.

Falcons play like an older classic clue. They're a little bit stiffer cue. IMO, McDermotts shaft taper makes them a little more whippy and thus, all things being equal (same tip), should "english" the cueball a little more. You shouldn't have any quality issues one way or the other.
 
falcons are stiffer then mcdermott.. depends on ur playing style.. i personally prefer falcon over mcdermott...
 
I have played with both cues. Both cues mentioned make fine cues and you should be happy wichever one you choose. I will say I think that Mcdermots have a very good feel due to their style of joint. If you get the 3 8/10 flat faced joint.
 
Both are quality products, McDermott has a better warranty. I own both and i think they both are nice playing cues, but the Falcons are stiffer.
But personally i don't like many of the designs on McD, i feel that Falcon makes more beautiful cues to look at. But this is only a taste thing i guess.
 
I can only agree with those that came before me. I personally would go (and have gone) for the McDermott, however if you prefer something stiffer go with the Falcon. You have to love the warranty on the McDermott, lifetime on just about anything except breaking the shaft in half.

I too have played with both brands but currently play with a Falcon. I think the "whippy" stuff is over rated and hard to measure or even comment on. I will tell you that the Falcon joint and shaft taper make for a stiff hit very similar to a Joss with a lot of feedback to the shooter. The McDermott on the other hand is a very soft hit with not a lot of feedback from the cue ball. I think both are a fine cue though. I'm surprised that you used both and liked both because the hits are really at opposite ends of the spectrum. Falcon does make a different joint style on some of their cues that is closer to the McDermott style so maybe you tried that? I would recommend hitting some balls with friends/team mates cues with different joint styles and then making a decision which style is best for your game before investing. Another thing to consider is when you own a McDermott chances are you're going to see the exact same cue in the hands of many others when you go to tourneys. Falcons aren't as popular in the states and you don't see near as many. Don't know if that matter to you or not.
 
I actually tried a discontinued mcdermott called the Silhouette M14b.

I had already played with another Mcdermott cue that one of my friend has and I liked it but I didn't play with a falcon that has chalk on it :p
 
McDermotts hold their value, and you can get close to or more than you paid for it if you try to sell it years later if it is well taken care of. It also has the best lifetime warranty, and free maintenance. I have never shot with a Falcon cue.
 
i have tried both cues. i personally like falcon. for some reason mcd's hit just wasn't for me. to each his own.although i like how you can have a leather wrap from mcdermott free of charge, i thought that was a nice feature.
