Promoting the Cueing Arts

As you may or may not know, some of us are trying to organize a DoD 9-Ball Tournament. There are cue makers, case makers, dealers, tournament directors, instructors and others in the industry that are members on this forum. What I want to know is, would anyone of the above mentioned be interested in being a sponsor for this event? Donations of cues, cases, gift certificates, lessons and cash are things we are looking for. Also, what time of the year (2005) would be the best to host this event so that it doesn't interfere with industry events (ie. tournaments, expos)
Some of us are really serious about this and have plans to put a lot of time into it. Serious comments and suggestions please!
If you wish to be a silent sponsor, contact me via PM, michael@zimsrack.com or phone 618-409-4175 (8am-9pm central)
Thanks for your support,
Zim

Zim,

I think we need a place and a date first. When I used to run Long Range Rifle match in San Antonio, the sponsors would need letters from the organizers for tax purposes. We had a standard letter we sent to around 100 potential sponsors, we had about a 40% success rate on participation. During the 3rd year we were up to 70% since people had actually heard of the match.

Sponsors donate prizes to get their name out there, so it might also be a good idea to get with Mike and maybe someone from BD, IP, or P&B to donate ad space so sponsors will know this is legitimate.

As far as the time and place, I would suggest either spring or fall, not during the PCS season and as far as place I would suggest San Antonio. I think SA has the largest concentration of military than any other city, so this may give the best turnout.

Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

I'm working on getting a place in the St. Louis area. IMO, this is centrally located in the States for those that need to travel. Scott AFB is here and has tons of Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, and Retirees. Do you think 7' or 9' tables, or which ever, depending on size of building?
I plan to get a letter together for the sponsors to keep in their records.

Thanks,
Zim

I would suggest 9' tables. I believe SA would be a better place, considering Ft Sam Houston, Lackland, Kelly USA, and Brooks are there. SA also has the largest retiree population due to the weather and the location of the Wilford Hall (has over 4,000 AD members alone) and BAMC. You're the one setting it up though.

BTW, I've been to Scott TDY. I have some friends stationed at the AE unit there. I've been in for 15 years now.

Jim

Are you stationed at SA or in Oklahoma? Do you have connections in SA area that could assist with the arrangements? SA is fine with me if we have a POC there. I could use a warm weather vacation anyway! haha!!

Thanks,
Zim

I'm stationed at Altus AFB in SW OK. I was stationed at Lackland for 10 years. San Antonio has two places that I can think of for the tournament, Fast Eddie's or Galaxy Billiards. Both places really like the military. I've been gone for almost two years, so I'm not sure who's still there. Richard, the owner of the Billiard Factory in SA may help, he's a pretty good guy.

St Louis or San Antonio, I'll be there either way. 6 Hours to SA or 8 Hours to StL. Makes no difference to me.

Jim
