Athena cues...a question for the ladies

My Wife is wanting a cue and of course it has to be "girly". She likes a cue by Athena and the google reviews are vague at best. Any of the ladies (or fellas with wives) on here ever play with them? If so whats your honest opinion of them. My wife is a beginner and I like that she has her eyes on an entry level cue...She likes it because its "cute" LOL. I just don't want to buy her something that's a P.O.S. and is going to fall apart.

Any input on the Athena cues (specifically the black cue with the zebra stripe points :o ) would be great! Thanks in advance

I had this similar predicament a while ago with the girlfriend. So here's my advice for you...

If she likes the cue...buy it.

Take the time to kit it out as well...find her a matching case, joint protectors, etc...

Make her feel apart of the whole thing and you shall benefit.

It's a $100 cue and she's no pro...it'll last. If anything have it retipped with a soft tip.

This has worked for me and my gf knows to break with my break cue. Just be wary if she buys you a cue, you can never get rid of it.

A friend of mine played with one for a while. She liked it but since her boyfriend at the time was a dealer, she ended up with a Viking soon after. I don't recall her ever saying anything bad about the Athena at all.

I tried it a few times and I found them to hit very light but they are made for smaller girly-girl types. Of course, the feel of a cue is totally individual and I'm not that dainty.

For the $100 tag, it's probably in the top of that price-range. A good deal for the money.
 
It's good enough for a beginner. Anything you can do to keep her at the sport is a start. She wont be able to tell the difference between that cue, and a nice cue for quite a while.

Some one else said kit it out, and i agree with that. Check out the tip when you get it, if it's junk, change it for a decent one, and let her play!

If you want a cue she can use for a LONG time, have her check out the Cuetec R360 line. WAAAAAAAAAAAY better cue, and the have girly ones. Plus it actually plays pretty good, so if she decides she doesn't want to play anymore, much easier to get $$$ back out of. and it's not much more expensive than Athena cues.

Jim, Thanks for the insight on the Athena cue's that's the type of comparison I was hoping to find. I'm not sure I'm reading your comment correctly but if you're an Athena dealer and you have/can order the particular cue my wife wants then I'd be happy to keep my money going to an AZBer...below is the cue she likes PM me the details

Edit: I'd also be interested in seeing what kind of a combo package could be put together with the cue such as a case and joint protectors and what not...
