Athena Cues?

Looking for a cue for my girlfriend, a small 5'4". Athena cues are in the $100 range, anyone have any experience with them? They're specifically made for women, or so I've read. While I immediately think it's a gimmick, I'd rather ask for opinions.

Specifically made for women? perhaps specifically marketed to women... They are likely designs that the manufacturer and resellers think a majority of women will like.

Cues are personal, from design to hit, sound, taper, weight and balance point. Best to do some research of your own by asking your girlfriend what she likes, Show her some cues on the internet or from a magazine and get a sense of what she likes from a design standpoint and from a playing standpoint if she has preferences.

they're really nice cues, and quite cheap. i played for a while once a week with a woman who had one, nice looking (the cue, too). they also come with a 10" extension (included in the price), which, as much as you hear tall guys on here whining about how they need a longer cue, blah, blah, Shane and other tall guys seem to do just fine, it's really Short people who need a longer cue to reach many shots, and this would be a huge help for your gf.

Shorter cues are overlooked

My wife shot "alright" with a "regular" sized cue. I got her to try a regular shaft on a shorter (child size) butt and her control improved by a noticeable amount. Her breaks are (on average) better as well.

She's settled on a skinny ld shaft with a pink child size viper end. It'd feel weird for just about anyone else but then again pool equipment isn't all about personal feel and preference. Right?

I'd shy away from the "cues for women" and instead get her to try out a few different combinations of various lengths and weights.

Purchased one of these for my daughter when she started playing a few months back. She's 23 years old and 5'7" tall, not particularly short for a woman, but not tall either. It's a $120 cue, so keeping that in mind, here's my take on how's it worked out for her.

The balance point of the cue is nice for her. It is only 1" shorter than a standard cue length and does come with the extension, which she's still learning to use since it changes the balance of the cue and of course the taper of the shaft changes when using it also. As with most cues, feel and hit are personal issues but for her first cue, she seems to like it quite a bit. She shoots well with it and has run six and seven balls several times already after only about 3 months of playing. I had a new Tiger Everest tip put on it for her, which seems to be a good fit as well. It has a wrap on it but it's some synthetic material, not irish linen. My daughter doesn't seem to mind. That said, my daughter picked up my Schon one day and shot with it and immediately noticed the difference in balance and hit.

I've shot with her Athena and for the value, it's a nice starter cue. All in all, i'd recommend it for anyone looking for a cue in that price range, including young players of both sexes due to the length and balance point of the cue being a big plus for them.

a Female on my team play's with one and shes pretty Good,, if the balls are laying good with no obstacles 6 out of 10 times shes out,,, with that being said I hit a cpl balls around with it I liked it,,, if I had to compare them to another brand I would say Players or Action cues,,, I think the Price Range there in,, is a good deal,, and the Girl on my team gets a lot of complements from other females in the League,,, hope this helps by the way your a Lucky man I wish I could get my girl to play
