I'm due to be receiving one of Keith's fancy SPs with one of his standard maple shafts. In anticipation, at some point in the future, of obtaining a secondary shaft, I wanted to gather some opinions. Bear in mind that I have been playing with a Predator 314-2.
Some options:
1) obtain an additional Josey - either standard or old growth
2) obtain another custom cue maker's shaft
3) obtain another LD shaft - either a Predator or OB-1 Classic

What say ye!
 
try the Josey shaft... if you don't like it go from there. Keith does a pro taper, so if his standard is too stiff for you send it in for a retaper. If you still don't like it, get a ld shaft.

Couldn't agree more. Tho the standard shaft plays great for me, I've been curious about the old growth shaft.

I had a laminated shaft before I bought my Josey...I now prefer the Josey shaft. Chuckles said it well...I'd strongly suggest playing with what you get for a spell. You may find it's exactly what you want...:grin:
 
By 'old growth', are y'all talking about the Timeless Timber™ lake submerged shafts that Keith offers? Do do have pretty low deflection, and are STIFF. I personally love mine! Hope to get another one someday, just as a back-up.

Also, it should be made mention that Keith does offer the option of ordering an laminated LD shaft...he offers most of the top selling brands..all you need do is ask.

Why, oh why...would you have another cue maker make a shaft for your Josey, when you can have Keith make you one? I could see it if one where unable to get a shaft from the maker any longer.

You're over-thinking this...wait until you get your cue and play with it...I mean really play with it for at least a month or two before you decide to start playing 'musical shafts'...LoL! You may well be very pleasantly surprised with the Josey's play.

Congrats on your pending cue and post pics once you get it!!
