Auction Scam ?

notice that this seller is from kentucky also (as is mike gartland). i wonder if this has been relisted thru another name (maybe a friend) so that mike is not listed as the seller??

$1700 for that mottey buy it now??? I don't think so. I think your a little crazy if you try and buy that. I can almost guarantee one of two things is going to happen.

1. He's going to pull the auction about 20 minutes before it is over just like everyone complains that the guy from quality cues does. (say it was lost or broken or something).

2. When you contact him to place your bid he's going to make you an unbelievable offer that you can't resist, saying he will let you buy it OFF ebay. Your going to wire him the money and never hear from the guy again.

If a deal is too good to be true, 99% of the time it is. Kind of risky shooting at that 1%. I've been burned on ebay and other places more than once so I've learned what to look for.

Smells of a scam to me. I'd make sure to escrow the cue through someone and offer him the money. I'll bet money he doesn't accept those terms. Why only a one day auction on a cue that would appear to certainly fetch more than $1700.

The listing is now gone .. I've contacted the seller through the link and received following email:

THIS IS NOT MY E-BAY LISTING SOMEONE HAS HACKED INTO MY ACCOUNT AND LISTED THIS .PLESE DO NOT BID ON THIS I DON'T HAVE IT OR KNOW WHAT IT IS.THANKS

Touched base with Mike of Quality Cues.
It is not his listing but someone took his pictures and his description and posted them on another account.
A good catch for another SCAM.
 
I sent the guy an email just to see what he said and this is what he sent back. Just as I suspected.

I want to sell my CUE for US $1,700.00.
All the shipping taxes will be included in the price so you will have a free delivery directly at your location.
If you are really interested in buying my item get back to me asap with your full name and address so I can initiate the transaction throguh squaretrade.After that you will receive an invoice from them with all the details about the deal.
I want to make the deal only through squaretrade so I can be sure about the deal.

Trying to will people into making a quick decision so he can screw you. That is why it was only a 1 day auction. I hate these scumbags. You have to be real careful on ebay. Just assume everyone is dishonest. It's almost not fair to the honest sellers but that's what you have to do. Way to catch this one. Somebody could have really lost some money.

I strongly suggest the victim of ID theft contact ebay through the on line panel.They will call you at your home or on your cell and ask some verifying questions,hang up and then solve and investigate the problem. You MUST change your password on the e-mail account linked to your e-bay acount before you get on line with them.
 
The guy kept emailing me back practically begging me to buy "his cue". First I just said no thanks. He sent me another email asking why I changed my mind and said just to offer him anything. So I told him that the ebay auction was closed. He responds saying that the buyer didn't come through (what kind of a seller gives the buyer a few hours to come through :rolleyes: . He tells me he will relist it if I wanted to do it through ebay (so I'm guessing he still has access to that guy's info). I finally then just show him the link to the original listing and tell him that if he's going to rip somebody off at least be smart about it don't list it a few days after the original auction. I also told him that no one in the world would let that cue go for under $1700 unless there was something terribly wrong with it. He responds saying "Thanks for the advice". What a jerk. I sent ebay his real email address that he was using and told them what happened but I don't know if they will be able to do anything unless the guy that had his ID stolen reports this.

A friend of mine, Danny a/k/a Jaxrabbit on eBay called me about the scam, and I requested that he report it to eBay, which pulled the listing. I wrote the guy or gal who did the fraudulent listing a nasty e-mail letting him or her know what I thought of his or her theft of my photos and write-up. I always use my real name and cell phone number when listing a cue on eBay. Thanks for e-mailing me about the bs listing.

Squaretrade is used for problem resolution between the buyer and seller. A person trying to use this service to complete a sale is scamming! I know this from experience because I caught an a--hole from UK trying to pull this on me.
 
I got burned pretty bad using Western Union. It was back in the early days of ebay scamming when I thought everyone was as honest as I am. Would never have thought somebody would just rip you off like that. I learned the hard way ($1000) and won't make that same mistake again. The sad thing is you can't really do anything about it. I filed a complaint with ebay and even filed a complaint with the national fraud organization. I sent in all the emails that were sent back and forth, the western union receipt, the address, phone number, and email of the person that ripped me off. A full description of what happened. Nothing happened for about 3 months so I finally called the national fraud people and asked them what they planned on doing about it and their answer was NOTHING. They said they wouldn't even pursue it unless the same scam happened repeatedly in a short period of time. A lot of help they were. :rolleyes:
 
Lawyer / the dog

You could try a lawyer or get a really good bloodhound to track the rodent down. Ive been offered about 7 times to western union money for various items or bank/wire transfer / money order. Never!! The best Ill do is fedex COD if they want cash. Id reinvest the $1000 in that dog though!!!

I read an article or saw a TV program regarding scamming and there is a guy that just runs the scammers in circles. It was quite funny to hear his stories... he had one scammer running back and forth across town to different Western Union locations, looking for money. He also had scammers that would call from Africa. He told them that he wanted them to sing instead of just speaking, so every time they left voicemail, it was in a stupid sing-song voice asking for him to please send money to them. Maybe someone knows this guys web-site.

I suggest reporting them every time you see them scamming on Ebay. And run them around a bit if you can (but be safe with your personal information).

My only bad experience with ebay was when I purchased a Playstation game for my kids. I sent a postal money order to the address provided. The next day, I got an email in very bad english saying to send the money order to a different address. I had already mailed it to the one on the ebay invoice. Anyway, I never got the item. I did the square trade, safe harbor, etc.

About a month later, I got the money order back marked return to sender. It looked like it had been to 20 different post offices.
