Buoght Joel Wienstocks Logan manual lathe with dual taper bars. He had it rigged to run on single phase power for both the lathe motor and the PC router. Changing it over to three phase operation requiring shutting down all three legs to the lathe motor and the single phase to the router at either end of a turning pass. Need coaching on the three phase controller setup. Running now with a conventional six pole fwd/rev switch to the 220 ACV in my pro shop. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. kenkenquarters,qsmith,Q-Spot Billiards,Tulsa, OK.emailqspot@tulsacoxmail.com

In most cases, a large motor & particularly one that is 3ph, will be controlled with a magnetic starter switch. It's basically a large relay that once energized, holds the contacts together of the individual 3 legs running pwr. to the motor. If the energizing circuit of the holding coil is opened, it releases the contacts that are providing current to the motor and the motor stops.

In your application, a N.C. limit switch conveniently mounted at either end of travel, would open that circuit when tripped.
There are usually extra taps (hot legs) within the magnetic starter that you can tap off of to run the router and you may have a choice of tripped or constant power.

Hope this helps, KJ

KJ is correct. If you can find this contactor you would be able to use a normally closed switch in series with the coil. It may be easier to just put switch in series with the E-stop switch if your machine has one.
This would do the same thing, just easier to get to.

Thanks . KJ and Mc2 for the mag starter coaching. My setup is strickly mechanical operating through a drum switch so I'll pick up a small mag starter, stick it in the power lines to the drum switch and operate it with a couple of micro switches for the disconnects. I'll still be able to use my drum switch as long as the mag starter is closed. Thanks again Ken Ken.
