Average Height Of Pool Tables

Last night for league I played at a poolhall I've never been to before. The tables must have been at least a few inches lower than normal. After about 10 minutes at the table, I started having lower back pain, which I haven't had in a while from playing pool (I usually get upper-mid back pain). I asked the home team if the tables are shorter, and they said yes, but didn't know by how much. Does anyone know what the average height is for a standard brunswick gold crown, (or any common 9footer) from the floor to the top of the rail? Thanks in advance.

I believe

They are 32" high (playing surface height). Don't forget adjustable legs.

I play at a few different places every week and the table heights vary as much as four to five inches. I find that the easiest way to adjust is to spread my feet more with lower tables or if you run into a higher table, bring your feet in closer together.

I'm not an instructor or anything, but that's what works for me. :D

Snooker tables are legal up to 34".

I'm building my own pool table, and have chosen a height of 34". Much less stress on the back.

The height of a snooker table from the floor to the top of the cushion
Rail officially should be from 2ft9½in to 2ft 10½in (851mm to 876mm).

Best wishes.

According to the BCA, the snooker surface can be 34":

But I'll take your word that the cushion height can be 34.5, which still brings the surface in at about 33", much better than most American pool tables.
Hi there,

I just checked that web page and it is correct in line with the rules of the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) and the World Professional Snooker & Billiards Association (WPBSA), as it states 34" with a tolerance of +/- 0.5" which is the same as between 2' 9.5" and 2' 10.5".

I know that when western Canada started switching from snooker to pool tables, all their 9 footers were really high and came up to above my waist! (Which isn't saying much, lol.)

My understanding is that the original regulations for table height were written in the late 1800's (height of the average adult male - 5'5"). Then they were updated in the 1940's (height of average adult male - 5'9"). This was pointed out to me while in Oregon at Billiards and Bagels by the owner there. As a result when I ordered my table from Ohlhausen I specified a height which exceeds the maximum regulation height by 3". Saves my back every time I play.
