Yobagua,

I think you and Fels are right about pool being tamper proof. The problem is like you said, they don't show everything that's going on. What is making the poker so interesting to me is watching the emotion and interaction of the players. That's where the drama is. If they showed a ring game and kept the camera on like they do poker, pool would become one of the hottest shows on cable. Can you imagine Keith, Earl, Rodney or any of the other top players talking stuff in a ring game? People would be glued to their TVs!!

You dont know how many people are sending me messages and agreeing with me about that. But the people who make the decisions at the networks have no idea of what the game is about. They all think its got to be something outside the realm of reality. And what we have now in place at the networks and on film is not sufficient.
Im going to open a whole can of worms here. First the announcing and play by play is atrocious. Terrible. It favors the lowest common denominator. Forget about what Mitch Laurence and that crowd and Alan Hopkins as a commentator. They dont care about you or me. THe real knowledgable pool fan who spends thousands of $'s a year on pool things. Cues, Table times, attending tournaments, etc. They are trying to appeal to some mass audience that doesnt exist. But what do we have as an alternative. As much as I like and respect Billy Cardone and Danny D, who is a great champion and teacher. These guys need to do more homework. Im tired of the same wa wa wa they keep repeating on the accustats tapes. Yeah I know "If you take care of whitey whitey will take care of you" and Yes we all know what the "electric chair banks" are and yeah Billy we know you like the Platters and can sing along to the tunes and yeah Ronnie Allen is famous for saying "Dumping looks like Dogging it". But come on boys we need some clean sharp analysis of the game to educate the masses that is waiting to understand what all the tension and struggle is all about. Do your homework! Think Howard Cossell, Dick Schaap, Bryant Gumbels Real Sport. We want to know why Earl thinks the way he does. What is Efren thinking when he sees a lay out. What is Efrens weakness. Does Shannon play better for high stakes. What does age do to Buddy hall and Nick Varner and how do they cope with it. You give us popcorn and thats what kind of audience you get back. We need to educate and challenge each other. Only then we can make demands on those in power.
