Used to be you could find good how-to discussion here on AzB - back then I recommended the forum to pool players looking for learning resources. Nowadays I send them to other websites - all you get here on AzB now is Ringmaster CJ Wiley and his performing seals barking about his for-sale "systems" - plus a few (and dwindling) faint objections that are quickly drowned out by the organ grinder music.

Quality posters with actual knowledge, once numerous here, are few and far between now - they've apparently gotten tired of swimming against the rising tide of bullshit and just faded away. Who can blame them?

I don't know what can be done about it - I don't know if AzB's owners/mods want to do anything about it. Maybe they'll wake up and quarantine this marketing infection like they did with the aiming system outbreak. Maybe it'll be soon enough to matter. Maybe somebody who cares will still be here to see it.

What's the matter Johnson, have you all but exhausted the information you've gleaned from Dr. Dave's website? Surely there's more to be found elsewhere.
 
I wouldn't lay that all at CJ's feet. The nasty, argumentative, mean-spirited, nitpicking, etc. posts and posters pervade many (most?) threads. I cannot comprehend why people have to engage in constant bickering, fights and arguments rather than just ignoring what they don't like. It seems like more than half the posts that are made with some intent to exchange useful information are attacked and picked at. Maybe that is the real problem with pool today - too many of that type of person turns people away.

With CJ's stuff, you can read it and take what you want (even if that is nothing) or just don't read them. The pervasiveness of the petty arguing across so many threads is unavoidable.

TS..I think Mr. Johnson is just echoing the sentiments of most 'regulars', who rarely bother to express it themselves !
..Fortunately, there are still a few of us trying to contain the unbearable tide of pure BS ! :sorry:...Noble effort PJ. :wink:

I really see this as a valid point. The worst is the non-pool related section where US politics has taken over. The GOP fans and Dems viciously attack each other every day. The craziest thing is they dont even know each other.
But I see this trend as rampant all over the net. I'm sure the bird watching forums have the same type of constant verbal abuse.

Boy, Dr., do you need an eye exam !..Who is the person, who "PERVADES" almost every thread, with HIS views on every subject know to man ?..The sheer number of his posts, make him impossible to ignore ! :sorry:

PS..I see Mr. Rose had another 'original' thought, in post #9..he said "LOL"..(he must be out of gorilla pictures ?) :p

As a relatively new player who has asked for (and received) advice many times, I don't have as big a problem with CJ/CTE/etal as I do with people who reply just to start an argument. The arguers take over the thread and make it too much work to sift through it for real answers. Usually the best I can hope for is that the arguers don't find the thread until at least a couple of good suggestions have been posted.

The people who offer real answers (like you PJ) get discouraged and just stop trying to help. Unfortunately, the people who have been the most generous with their time (PJ, ENGLISH!, etal) seemed to get banned on a fairly regular basis.

(part of it is that I spent the better part of my life as a salesman, so I have a high tolerance for people trying to sell...as long as they do it in a positive manner. To the best of my recollection, CJ has never badmouthed other systems or their developer/promoters.)

Rose, you and Dave haven't been here long enough to really have much say here, but my guess is that right up front you two are probably not very good pool players. Am I right? If you were, then you might show a bit more respect, and not prove Johnson here that he's right. :smile:
 
Whether or not CJ's material is hogwash is irrelevant to the fact that PJ is absolutely correct when he uses the term, "marketing infection."

There is no denying that 90% of posts and threads that CJ starts have something to do with what he's selling. Even threads about something unrelated will eventually go down the road of talking about TOI or wrists. No different than how any thread with the word "aiming" in the title will inevitably be all about CTE.

CJ obviously has plenty to share, and it obviously helps some people. My vote is that he gets his own subforum in Ask the Instructor. Anything remotely related to what he sells should be moved there immediately.

Never in a million years will I say PJ is correct, but CJ is obviously in this thing for CJ, that's for sure.
But, if we indict CJ for pimping his wares then we've got to look at a bunch of others as well whose avatar page is lit up like a Christmas tree. :)
 
I know the "old man" use to play good one pocket, but who cares. He's a smart ass ***** and I'm sure everyone feels the same, and yes I can play !!
