B&R From League last night

I love this freakin' game

I just got moved up, and the other teams know it, so they are putting their veteran, seasoned 5's- 7's on me, making try to outrun the spot.

There's a no push out rule, and for some reason balls on the break are hard to come by. Yes, I have tried everything from an 11mph cut, to a 26mph crush, from rail to rail.

So my opponent wins the toss, breaks dry and I run out. The second rack, I break, they kind of swirl around the table, the one goes in the side, and I am left with this.

Nothing champion speed, and the rack opened up after the 3 fell, but staring at the 2-ball after the break, looking at three balls blocking the obvious pocket, and what at first glance was a cluster tying up the 3-ball, and I was pretty excited to unravel this one.

CueTable Help

The 3 goes in the side by a HAIR, so I I dribble the 2 in side really soft, afraid I am going to roll through that narrow window and get hooked by the 7.

I ended up like an inch or less short of where I wanted to be, so when I roll the three in the left side of the pocket, I am almost frozen to the 7, and only have the top of the CB for the 4.

I gingerly pocket the 4, again afraid that 7-ball is going to stick his nose in.

I sort of drag the 5 in slow, and ended up almost straight on the 6. I would have been happy with an angle to pop out for the 7, but getting that would have flirted with the hook. Seems like all I did was try to work around that freakin' 7-ball!

I drew back for the 7 in the side, and got a little short, to where I either had to stroke around for shape on the 8 or soft roll our buddy 7, and "accept" the shot.

It's an eight foot table, and I figured slow rolling every ball got me this far....

nice out!

I like the way you played this with just one exception. First, as we all know, there's usually more than one way to skin a cat, and you got the pelt.

I think the key shot in your success was making the 4 ball with whitey being frozen on the 7. Potting that 4 while jacked was a big shot.

What I would have played different, and you even considered it, was the slow roll for position on your 8. With the angle you had on the 7 it was a natural to go to the foot rail to get an easier angle on the 8. But like you said, slow rolls were working for you on this 8-footer and all's well that ends well. You handled two tough shots on this run - the jacked up 4 and the soft touch 2 in the side to leave the three reasonably nice, though letting the cue run a bit longer would have given you a better angle on the 3 to get to the 4 with no danger of freezing the cue for a jack up.. Your cut on the 8 was no a gimme, either.

Nice read and execution. They're right to be putting their high caps on you. ;)

Best,

Thanks Brian.

The thing I didn't mention, and plays into the 7 / 8 position, was that I was coming off simonis, to "slidy" wool cloth and was having trouble with how things moved and angles on the smaller table.

I agree with you, and on a table I was confident in, I move end rail to the 8.

I am STILL trying to learn how to adjust back and forth. I only play league for the free practice and the competition, and spend 95% of my time on 9' tables with simonis.

Great Out DP40.
Thanks for sharing the visual helps me. I would have tried the 2 in the corner and screwed things up
