Back cut break shots

BTW, this is my first post in the 14.1 forum!

Anyway, my question has to do with break shots where you have to back-cut the ball (I don't know the term, but I assume that the players know). The one player that I talk to around here is a guy that has run 150+ with BOTH hands in match play and so he simply switches hands if he has one of them come up (he may be ambidextrous but I don't ask).

I on the other hand don't have the luxury of possessing that oddball talent which brings me to the question; Is there any trick to them? I know exactly what he meant by "it looks harder". Just looking at the shot gets me a little flustered and when I miss it, I over-cut it almost every time. I may be answering my own question somewhat but it looks right before and after I get down on it so I'm a bit confused. Thanks in advance for any response.

There may be some confusion in terms...

First, a back-cut is a back-cut, no matter which hand you shoot it with.
Think of the break ball shot, if the CB is closer to the side rail than the
OB is, you have a back-cut.

Is this the shot giving you a problem?

IMHO - most players up to intermediate level, pocket balls much better
if the pocket is in their field of vision when they are sighting the OB
Many higher level players have the same problem - esp on thin cuts,
say 1/4 ball hit or less.

My advice: Practice, practice, practice...

Not too original, but still the sure fire way to improvement.

Start by using ONLY the CB and break-ball<no rack, a typical problem
is wanting to watch the OB smash into the rack, instead of
watching the OB go into the pocket like you should.

Begin with easy cut angles and the CB close to the OB.
When you can consistently make that shot, move the CB to a
steeper angle and/or farther from the OB.
Lather, rinse, repeat...

This will help.

When you are comfortable with a goodly range of break-ball shots,
rack up the other 14.
