Larry Drennan is a proud Kilkenny man from the Emerald Isle, but one of his greatest talents has been his ability to meet and greet his fellow opponents across the green baize and treat them all as equals.
Drennan has been Kilkenny’s finest player on a billiards *and* snooker table for sometime. People may talk about others from an era when the game was the sole property of gentlemen who wore waistcoats, smoked cigars, and played poker in a dimly lit room, where the only noise was the crack of ivory on ivory.
He always had a proficiency for sporting greatness since the beginning of his life's journey, and whatever he tackled, he went for it with full exuberance and achieved greatness. He was a champion darts player, dabbled in basketballer, boxed at St. Patrick's Boxing Club, became a table tennis player as well as an English soccer star aka English football, not be confused with Irish soccer. He has a near photographic memory of racehorses and greyhounds and worked for a spell in the sport of kings. One of his greatest feats is hurling, which Kilkenny is famous for.
I believe this man would be a hoot to engage in conversation over a couple of brewskies at a local Irish pub. He's covered quite a bit of ground and is still going strong.
Here's a fun read with a little blarney about an all-around great Irish player: Baize of Glory. [Retrieved 30 July 2011]
All smiles, Larry (depicted on the right) is presented with the 2011 All-Ireland Senior Billiards Title. I'd venture to guess he's got quite a few trophies in various sports disciplines. The other two gentlemen in the photo sure do look a lot like Ernest Borgnine and Grady Mathews.
