Bakersfield Bound

Well after a month of negotiations my company and I have agreed for my moving to Bakersfield, CA and Project Manage out of that office. Its a big move for me having never lived for an extended period of time out of the Northwest. We'll see how it goes.

I have been in contact with the local BCA and APA reps and will hopefully join teams after the start of the new year. I will probably wait until late Spring/early summer to buy a home and get my 9' Diamond setup.

My office is in the northwest area of Bakersfield and a few miles from Cueball's Family Billiards. Any ideas of good locations to start looking for homes around that area? I know there is Riverlakes Golf Course near our shop but I had not really been looking in the three weeks I was down there this month.

Should be interesting...to say the least.

Good Luck With The Move I Work In Bakersfield From Time To Time We Should Exchange # And Meet Up 1 Day And Play Some. Again Good Luck I Hope You Have Shorts For The Summer Time Hehe

I live in Bakersfield, and while I am just getting back into billiards (my 8' Olhausen is being delivered Saturday), I can provide info as to places to buy. Depending on your budget, the Northwest (which includes the Riverlakes area) is the most popular/newest area. They are building up all over town though. The Ritzy area's are Haggin Oaks (older homes owned by Doctors and the like), Bakersfield Country Club/The Bluffs area (even older, but probably a little cheaper) and the Seven Oaks Area (the gated part is top of the line starting around $1mil). If you stay West of Fruitvale Ave you should be good. If you have kids, you are going to want to ensure you are in a good School district. The recommended Elementary district is Norris (in the Northwest and all the schools are great). Fruitvale district is good as well. The rest of the districts have good and bad schools, so you would need to look into each of them if you are out of the Norris or Fruitvale Districts. The ones to avoid are Beardsley, Standard, Bakersfield City, and anything East of Fruitvale Ave. As far as the housing market, it is definitely a buyers market. There are tons of houses available (a bunch of foreclosures too). As far as the weather here, we have Very hot and long summers so I would try to get a pool if it's in your budget. Winter is mild with some rain (not enough), some fog (though not nearly as bad as it used to be), NO SNOW, and rarely freezing temps. Bakersfield is like an Island, but it's pretty close to lots of stuff. Vegas is 4.5 hrs away, LA a couple hrs away (depending on traffic), Pismo Beach (popular central coast getaway) 2 hrs away, Yosemite is about 2.5 hrs away.

PM me if you need any more info. Also, just curious, what company are you working for?

I would be absolutely, positively, totally 100% screwed if Vegas was only 4.5 hours away :D :D :D

Haha, I know what you mean. We used to go like 5-6 times a year, now we have to limit it to 1-2. :( March Madness is gonna be a blast!

I am ladyless and childless so schools are not really relevant at this point. :) Kind of why I was a good candidate within the company to move.

I work off Fruitvale and Krebs Road for Dunkin & Bush, Inc. An Industrial Painting Company working in the valley for Chevron, Aera, Shell Oil, ExxonMobil, etc. recoating tanks, pipelines, etc. We are back behind the PourHouse Pub.

Sounds like we won't be able to play on the same pool team now..oh well .Good luck

Yep, even the best pre-laid plans get fudged. Thanks for everything you've done within the WesternBCA. They are always great tourneys. I'll see all of you guys in Vegas for sure. Let me know if you are going down for VNEA or others as well. Short drive to come watch.

Good Riddance!!!!

Lol, we are gonna miss ya for sure. I got your number, and don't think I ain't gonna call you when I go down there either.

HEHE. Just feel fortunate. Now you have a better chance of making the money each week. I will miss the tough tourneys thats for sure. I heard there is at least one tourney in town down there on Friday nights. I'm sure I'll see ya before I leave for good.

I just got back from Bakersfield and will be there at least once per month.
Maybe we can meet and knock some around.

When looking for your home always consider resale value. School district has an affect on the resale value and how long it would be on the market.

Todd,
I had a call from a player (tournaments and leagues) today who used to live in Bakersfield. Said there was some nice tables at the Eagles in Bakersfield. Maybe you would want to check it out.
