Balabushka

I am fairly new to the custom cue market. I have played mostly production cues like Schon and Joss most of my life. I am interested in having a cue new custom cue made. I would love to have an original Balabushka but unfortunately I don’t have a disposable 25K lying around. I had a chance to hit an original Balabushka once and all I can say is it was love at first strike. Tascarella from everything I have read is probably the closest modern link to the old master, but which modern custom cue plays like an original Balabushka? Since joining this forum I have found all members to be very honest and helpful. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The best answer would be to try as many as you can get your hands in order to find the type of hit that feels best to you.

Well this is a little tough. Hit is very subjective, in fact it is the most difficult aspect to nail on a cue. There are a lot of reasons for this and there are a lot of factors. Some people notice changes in the hit just by changing the tip.

In the case of Balabushka, Pete would be a great cue to use for a comparison. He builds cues with a lot of the techniques that George used. So do the other "classically" trained cuemakers. Mottey/White, Showman, obviously Barry Szam, Schick, Skip Weston, Hercek incorporates the full splice found on many Bushka's with Spain or titlist handles, there are many.

I would recommend going to the DCC and hit a dealer up for some test time, or at the VF Hopkins show. Maybe you'll find that dream cue, or something close and call that cuemaker to get on his list for a custom.
