come on now lets shed some light on this

what are the rules? what is the objective?
i get that its a variant of freegame to make it harder

what i thought i heard once was that you cannot make say more than 3 points with all 3 balls in the same zone consecutively

seems to be the explanation on wiki anyways
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkline_and_straight_rail

please explain

id like to hear from people who currently play, if possible i can only imagine that erriep must know

Fairly simple actually. With the exception of the center area where you may make continuous points with the balls remaining in that section, you may make only one carom in any other section before driving one of the balls out of that section. (It may return to that section, as in driving it across table and having it return to the original section, where the pattern can be repeated).

I think the center section is no longer free. There seems to be no special provision for it in the current rules: http://files.umb-carom.org/Public/Rules/Carom_Rules.pdf

The best source in English of info about balkline is Daly's book ("Daly's Billiard Book") which is available on-line for less that $10 delivered.

And the best demo of balkline (and all the other carom disciplines) is Caudron's video set from Kozoom. Parts of it have been pirated onto YouTube.
