Ball temperature

I noticed Shaw wearing a hat and coat while getting ready for his historic run. The room had not warmed up yet. Do you think the ambient temperature effects how the balls play?
i have set of good balls. I sometimes leave in my car. I take them to the senior center. In New Jersey where the temperature goes to extremes do you think this can make a difference? I'm looking for excuses for missing so much. Maybe I can just say the ball temperature is causing me to miss yeah that's it. It's not me.

In theory, either by the temperature being extreme or the measurement being extremely precise, yes.

Practically speaking, no.

Humidity affects the table, and temperature and humidity are often related, but that's not directly temperature causing the differences.

WTF??? More word salad. Ball temp isn't going to change anything. For phenolic to play diff you'd have to raise/lower the temps FAR beyond anything you'd see except maybe in a lab. Please people get real.

I said that in theory it has an effect, just like anything. Measure something precise enough and almost anything will start to cause effects. But then I also said that practically it doesn't matter, as in, it shouldn't be considered at all for your pool game. What do you disagree with?
The op asked if the balls would play different. answer is NO. No one asked or cares about 'what if' scenarios that will never happen. His question required a simple NO not a trip down nerd avenue.

That's your opinion. Some are the opposite.

The elasticity of the balls will absolutely change with temperature change.
Will it be enough to matter? I don't know...or care.

All I know...or care, is my beer tastes better when it's cold.

I learned to play in a basement that was sometimes really cold. I felt like there was a difference in play but it could’ve been my natural love of the cold putting me in a good mf mood.

Everything feels more crisp and responsive. I’d sometimes worry about the CB shattering during a break but it never did

Phenolic elasticity is bound to change. In long 9 ball sessions you get periods during which the break refuses to work. It's possible the core/surface temperature of the balls crosses a threshold under constant breaking that causes this.

Phenolic resins are some of THE most stable compounds when it comes to temp. variation. What you're describing will not ever happen. Really hoping you're joking but on here you never know. ;)

I never know anywhere. I figure with 9 balls exploding, the the slightest change can make a difference.

The temperature effecting elasticity is noticeable in the rubber of the cushions. Hence heated tables. Of course the heated table heats the balls. The elasticity effect in the balls themselves is slight but similar to changes in the surface cleanliness or polish. There was a time at the 211 in Seattle that a silicone spray was applied to the balls. Sure made the balls play different. A Novice owner heard of this and sprayed his balls....while on the table!!!!! Sure changed the cloth and rails and not for the better.
Cold balls will react different. However it's a slight difference that Lesser Players will not detect and will even deny.

Ooops I misstatements. He didn't put silicone spray on the balls. He sprayed Armor All on the rails to make them nice and shiny. Shure screwed up the cloth. My bad. 🤷‍♂️ CRS
