I went and watched that bank ring game Friday night during Shannon's Southern Billiard Tour event. It was on the 5x10 and had a stellar field paying $300/man to enter they paid it out first and second they announce the amounts which I dd not catch but it alleviated any concern about a saver being made at end of the match which I thought was a major improvement. The players were Shannon Murphy blind bid in the calcutta, John Brumback, Jason Miller, Shannon Daulton, Truman Hogue, Danny Smith and Clay Carmen. Inside Pool was streaming video with Alvin producing the event. Greg Sullivan from Diamond was in attendance. It was absolutely great, I almost did not attend but drove over from Indy just for the event. A buddy and I actually bought Shannon D in the calcutta which proved to be smart move on my part. It came down to Shannon Daulton and John Brumback as the final two after putting out Shannon Murphy and then Jason Miller. Shannon Daulton run 7 banks at one time and the were multiple 5's on the giant table, I had heard the table was giving the players issues back in Indy but these guys had no problems when they started playing. Thank you Michaels for hosting such a fine event and having the first Big 10' Diamond table in the midwest.
Couple of things I liked was they agreed to allow a player with no shot to roll out. To decide if there was no shot all others had to agree. It came up a couple of times including once when Brumback played a two way bank shot and rolled the cue ball over onto the 8 ball near the corner on the side rail. John made the bank shot but now he was stymied they agreeed he could push out even though he put himself in that positon. Shannon was following John who pushed out perhaps 1 inch barely off the rail very near the ball. Shannon glanced at it and passed quickly. John banked that 8 cross corner what a shot. I liked the no shot player can rollout rule. i also liked how they escalated the wager doubling it every 2 games. On kicking the 3 rail kick was in effect, Shannon made a 5 railer and there was a few 3's made but more of the three rail kick's were missed than made. I think most of the players were kicking based on feel rather than a system such as Jimmy Reeds spot on the wall adjusted for each direction.
Observation - I do not claim that John Brumback is center to edge player but I did notice he has a very noticeable pivot in his setup. He consistently pivots and he is very repeatable. John is truly an awesome bank pool player.
