Have you ever felt that at some point in a session of practicing banks or any other type of shot/game, that you had found the slot, the proverbial "zone", in which you could miss almost nothing? Tonight, I felt like I stayed in a zone longer than I ever have... Several times during a long solo practice session, shooting almost nothing but banks, I felt like I couldn't miss. I set my new high run in short rack banks, with eight consecutive banks (4+4...waa, no break and run!). Especially on long cross-corners, from beyond the side pockets (these are usually my worst banks), I could do no wrong at certain times. It's almost as if I didn't even aim some of these, I just felt this "zone", where I just knew the shot, I knew my initial aim/alignment was right as soon as I got down on the shot. I wish I could capture this sensation and bust it out when I really need it!!!
I've heard pro athletes from various sports mention this same feeling. Most notably, Michael Jordan, after a game in which he canned three-pointers at will for a few minutes.
I wanted to hear from others who might have felt this... Maybe not just for banks, but any sort of pool. Although, I seem to get this feeling most often on bank shots. Maybe it's just because I enjoy studying their intricacies, or maybe it's just the zen of the bank shot. Either way, it surely makes for some fun shooting when you find that zone...
