Bar box 8.

Right you are Fred. We put "call ball" into the BCA Rules around 1978. That & BIH where major changes.....SPF=randyg

Every once in awhile I'll shoot some in a bar where the no ball in hand, and other rules aren't in play. I don't know how many times I've heard in a bar - calling EVERYTHING (caroms, and even in some cases no rail before pocketting a ball - wow) and NO BALL IN HAND is REAL 8ball. No problem, the looks on their face when I break out a cluster of my balls and intentionally scratch (all in one shot) while their balls are in the kitchen is PRICELESS. Cheap play? Nope, using "their rules" to my advantage...lol. :p

Banks,

That was my point exactly. Play pretty fair on the Diamond's. When I get to the Valley's with the funky cue ball, my game goes to pieces. Rather go to the dentist for a root canal! Honestly, it's my lack of practice on those conditions, not the table. Way too easy an excuse.

So do Valleys have "funky" cue balls or not? Their website says they are the same as the object balls, just magnetic.

P.S. I think some people got their threads mixed up, where did the argument about rules come from? :)

Todd,

Less than a month after the BCAPL event in Vegas, I returned to play in the ACS event. Major difference? BCAPL on Diamonds. ACS on Valleys. The Diamonds use a standard Aramith cue ball. On the other hand, we counted at least four different cue balls in use on the Valley tables at the ACS event. If you were really lucky, you got one of the Aramith "Greenie" cue balls. They at least roll somewhat true. On the other extreme were cue balls with the lightning emblem. Understand they stopped making them many, many years ago. In between were unmarked cue balls that would stop and then roll sideways half a turn. The internal weight came loose. Thats what I call funky. What would you call it? Certainly not the kind of condition I would prefer to play on! Not even going to talk about the white billiard ball size cue ball I've seen in use. Thats just too scary.
