Bar Box Syndrome sucks!

Finally got to get out of Kingman and play a little pool on something other that a bar box (its been over a year of nothing but BB's). A friend of mine talked me into taking the two hour drive with him to drop his wife off in Vegas at the airport, afterword we went to the Las Vegas Cue Club for a couple hours. Its a pretty nice room and they take good care of their equipment the only downside is it was a bit on the pricy side ($10.50 an hour for 2 of us). It was great to play on a 9-footer again! It was humbling, but still a good time...I have a severe case of BBS (Bar Box Syndrome) and the 9' pro cut Diamond made it very apparent! I forgot that you actually have to hit the pocket to make a ball! LOL

I found myself undercutting balls by almost a full diamond on a regular basis and I have lost a ton of accuracy when letting my stroke out...Speed control?...Whats that? I forgot that a table could roll that fast! I felt like I was playing pool on an iced over football field and I needed binoculars just to pick out the spot on my object ball at the other end of the table...

By the end of the session I was finally starting to gain a little confidence and getting a little bit of a feel for the table. I need to spend a year on a real table to unlearn this lazy sloppy pool I have come to play on the BB.... It's astounding to me how sloppy my game/stroke has become playing on BB's with buckets for pockets. The 9' kicked my ass a lot worse than I thought it would...Bar Box Syndrome...It does exist....

Congratulations on your fine self diagnosis. Sounds like you have found the correct prescription as well. :wink:

I've always found it best to practice safe pool and spread myself around all the tables. :grin:

Was the trail of vomit leading into the mens washroom still there?

For that matter, were there any functional toilette's there. Smelled like a fire hydrant in a dog pound the night we spent there.

Yeah, nice tables, it certainly didn't look like the pictures on the web site.

Got a tee shirt and drank about 60 beer. Used to Canadian beer I guess.

Filled up one table and started stacking them double and then triple. No one was picking up the empties. Or maybe I was supposed to take them home.

Training beer. Cold and tasty tho, just didn't give me a whack.

But, we lost our hall Shaun. The closest is 50 miles which isn't so bad but it is a franchise pool hall. Dooley's in Canada. They use tables built in Montreal. Not half bad but the cloth was really nappy.

When some of the old timers talk about Nappy cloth, I now know what the heck they are talking about. No slow rollers on that cloth.

I wish it were a viable option to play on all the tables all of the time...Nothing but BB's out here in my neck of the woods. My wife would shoot me if I were to drive out to Vegas on a regular basis to play pool...LOL

There was no vomit trail, the rest room was clean/functional and there was a guy walking around cleaning the whole time we were there. All in all the place seemed well maintained. I didn't do any drinking there (we got there at 9:00 AM) but the service seemed okay. The night time scene might be a little different but based on my only experience there so far I'd give it and 8 out of 10...I just wish it were closer, 4 hours (round trip) is a little out of range to play there on the regular...
