Ok guys and galls I need your help on this one.I've been playing on leagues for about a year now and the bar that i play out of wants to have a tournament. We aren't sure if it will be 8 or 9 ball and had some questions about what rules to use in the tournament. Valley,APA,BCA etc. Also what is the best way to break down the payouts and how many places back should we go? A girl in my daughters class had thier house burn down yesterday and we would like to donate some of the proceeds to the family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Any posted rules would be AOK...
For a tourney with a small field I usually pay off 40%30%20%10% to the top 4 finishers.
Because you are running one for proceeds to help someone, I would make 50% of the entry fees automatically go to the assistance fund
and .... usually many of the players also donate their winnings to the fund (maybe minus their entry fee). Also, have a donation jar for the spectators!

bar tournemant

I just held a benerit tourny for friend and his wife to help with medical expences, we raised over 1000 bucks , with donations. half the green fee to play and raffled of cues that were donated went well .get you a mailing list of your reg players and send out flyers to them and other rooms and ask for thier help.ask local paper to help with adv, take pictures of winners and put in paper with story on the outcome and money raised. let me know if i can help STICK

As far as the rules go, I would say it would be best to use the same rules that your league plays with. This will be less confusing for the majority of players that would be from your area, and any other people can just adapt. IMO

Good luck, sounds like you have some good thoughts started.

I agree with Perk...use the same rules as used for your league, less confusion. Be sure to post a sign with a donation jar/can explaining what the donation is for. See if you can get someone to donate a cue (maybe from a local pro shop or a player), use the league players to aid in the advertising and put an add in the papers about the tournament, on the radio, and then again posting the results.
Best of Luck!
