Barringer cues

Just my 2 cents. How stupid are people going for this gaff! Any Az people beware.

I believe he's referring to the eBay auctions???
The Barringer cues on eBay seem to go at a REALLY high price...at least for a cue company which is relatively unknown, or at least thought of as "nothing special" by most. And they do that method of bidding where the bidders' ID don't show...

It's quite suspicious.........quiiiiiiiiite conspicuous.........:D

Um, when this very subject came up 1-2 weeks ago, a similar response was given then, and it's somewhat less than accurate. Allow me to enlighten you:

Joe Barringer is extremely well known by most, if not all, domestic cuemakers. His company, Cue Components, has been providing cue parts, pieces, woods, turning blanks, shafts, etc, to this Industry for longer than most here have been playing.

As I stated last time, I don't keep up with what he's doing on Ebay at any given point, and I certainly won't speculate about those activities. But you'll probably never see a Barringer cue selling for less than $400.00.

And have you EVER seen a used one for sale? I have not. What does that tell you??

Please don't misinterpret this post! I'm not attacking you or anyone else, just trying to share some info.

As far as I can tell, they look on the up and up to me! They have a good website and have been in business a long time. They have a good history in the general cue maintenance, repair and resale of used cues, it was only time before they would start making there own cues. I have known of them as long as I have know of Proficient Billiards.

For custom hand built cues, their prices look to be in the same ball park as many of the other custom cue builders we all talk about on this forum.

No offense taken, friend. ;)
Always good to hear another opinion.

I am very familiar with Joe Barringer and Cue Components, just as you stated one involved in cues ought to be. But when it comes to Barringer Cues, it's not exactly what you would call a "household name," is it?

My thing is I can't even try a sneaky pete made by Barringer Cues for less than the cost of a plain jane from plenty of other at least equally reputable cuemakers...the pricing just seems to be a bit "off" to me...

...and when you're talking eBay auctions, they seem even more high by comparison.

But hey...if they play well and continue to sell well, so be it.
Congrats to Joe! :)

i met joe barringer in person one time.. he came to a friends pool room and he showed him some things involving making veneered points in cues.. he seemed like a great guy..

from their website:

The Following Pricing Schedule Is Just A Guide.
Exact Pricing Can Be Negotiated Accordingly Depending
Upon Your Requirements. We build to suit and we're
not looking to get rich on building one cue. Terms are available.

Cues w/ 1 shaft
Sneaky Pete's..............................$250 & up
Any Maple No points...................$350 & up
Exotic wood, no points................$400 & up
Jump/Break Cues.......................$375 & up

Shafts
Regular shaft..........................$150
Barringer Devastator Shaft™ (laminated)................$175
Barringer Devastator II Break Shaft™...................$175

Cues w/ 2 Shafts & Ivorine Ferrules
4-Points No Veneers......................$800
4-Points 2 Veneers.......................$850
4-Points 3 Veneers.......................$900
4-Points 4 Veneers.......................$950
5-Points No Veneers......................$900
5-Points 2 Veneers.......................$950
5-Points 3 Veneers.......................$1000
5-Points 4 Veneers.......................$1050
6-Points 3 high and 3 low....Price on request

Prices look like they are in the correct ball park to me. Don't judge a book by its cover or name in the community. I have a local cue builder in my backyard that will make cue only to people he as met in person and there is a 2 years waiting list.

A friend...

bought some Ivory from CueComponents (5 ferrules, joint and buttcap) and all were good quality except for the buttcap that had a huge crack in it...and they would not take it back or exchange it.

That's because it happened during shipping. Didn't your friend read the disclaimer? They send everything out in perfect shape, but will not be held responsible for what happens during shipping, isn't that great:o .

Your're right!!!

That is exactly what he said to him on the phone, when he called about it.

That sounds shakey t me. makes me think why didn't they package it better. did they ship it on a friday? things sitting in a warehouse overnight is never good news

And How....

the buttcap gets cracked (and sealed!!!!) and the ferrules are perfect and the box is perfectly crisp!!

ok, here is something for you. I went to their site. I have looked at these cues for a long time. I have bought components from them before. I can't get over the eBay crap. Those SP look like they would have a very different hit. I have never used a cue with that pin before and I have always wanted to. When I saw them on eBay I was like "Yes, now I am going to jump all over this", but they go up to the max bid as soon as they are posted, most of the time the cues I want I get SNIPED in the last 20-30 minutes and I lose out in the end. NO WAY I AM PAYING $450 for one of those SPs when I can just go to his site and order one for $250 and he does TERMS!
What a deal!

Buy from David Warther. He has repaced cracked joints as long as they have not been cut on. Butterflycues
