So, i am looking to get back into billiards after quitting in late 2009, but as it seems in the time since i left billiards all of the pool halls that i knew of have closed lol.....

Is there anywhere in the BC area where i can go, to get some practice in? or any of the AZB member that live in the BC area that have their own tables??? i love playing on 9fts, but will play on 7fts too.... and love playing anything from 8ball, 9ball, 10ball, to 1pocket or banks or straight pool... but save the last two for when i am playing really well..

but as i say, i am just looking for places to practice or possibly get some lessons or w/e..

I use to live in Battle Creek about 15 years ago. The Billiard Cafe on Columbia Ave. was the best place in town back then. Jayme Goodwin (a great player- was on the Camel Pro Tour back in the '90s) ran the place back then. Goodwin used to run some great handicapped tournaments back then on Sundays. I'm not sure if that place is around still in any form or fashion.

Jackson, Michigan to the east of Battle Creek use to have good tournaments at "The Garage" back when I lived in that area too. I don't know if that place is still around either.

Last I heard, Goodwyns place is closed. The garage is closed, but there is some other place now in Jackson. Nothing in Kalamazoo area. Wish I could help you more, but things are looking pretty bleak in W. Mich. right now. If you facebook Kirkwood you should be able to find out what rooms there are actually left.

Yeah....west michigan is certainly a little slow for pool halls. Mostly APA and BCA in the local bars. I'm in holland with a 9 ft gold crown in the basement. A little further then you probably want to travel. But an option.

yea, i actually was in Kzoo and happened to be by Playtime and was like ehhh i'll stop in..... and then noticed on the sign that it was closed...

but yea, i use to live in holland till 2007 and kind of giggle how the billiard scene went from booming to not a damn thing within 2 or 3 years of me leaving....

i heard the brickyard pub, which was Jayme's old place is opening back up, and same with the old garage...

but yea i am just feeling out if it's even worth getting back into billiards...

I mean i've got golf basically from april till oct, and then i have bowling from sept to april... so it's not like i dont have options...

just would like to get back into playing some pool without driving forever to do it lol.....

Raks Tourney

Raks Sportsbar in jackson, Mi has a friday nite tourney that has been paying 600 for first every week. Lots of action. Need more info you can call me 517-414-6222 Ace

The garage will be open again soon, and Jamie's place is getting ready to open again too so i heard.

Jamie Goodwyn was middle Tier Pro. Jamie Goodwyn`s place was fantastic. The tables played fantastic. He used to brag little bit and that got him in trouble one time in Detroit area. He used to tell people that he will not come out of the house with less than $Ten Thousand dollars. They got him in the parking lot of a pool room in Detroit suburbs and took his money.

I remember that he sort of had a dent in his forehead. I wonder if that was from a gambling related incident?

sad about Playtime. That was a nice place.

I wonder what happened with the pool scene in Michigan? When I lived there all of these places seemed to be thriving. I'm rather surprised that they all closed down at least temporarily.

Manufacturing left the state, and the money went with them.

lol..he dont FB....

The facebook group "Michigan Pool Players" has quite a few postings of the state tourneys and smaller local tourneys. Dr Pool still has 3 events a year in Mount Pleasant which have good "B" and below events, Grand Rapids just has had a few events recently and plan on having more, Flint/Saginaw area has some stuff at "Whos Who Billiards", and the northern team/singles events still are going.

No getting around the driving if you want to play pool.
