I think he is just being as honest as the day is long. He can pot like hell and knows the patterns but lacks top end knowledge of the game on an American 9ft. And I think he is very aware of this.
I'm surprised he hasn't played the game more, although to be fair he did support Darren Appleton's World Pool Series. I think both he and Gareth Potts have always been awfully British about playing a foreign game. Money talks though, hence the dabbling in Heyball.
