BCA/ACS - who's winning?

As you know, BCA sold their league operations to Mark Griffin and it is now operated as a "for profit" league operation. Then the former BCA league folks (John Lewis), suddenly without a job, started ACS as a "non-profit" league operation.

So who is winning the BCA/ACS war?

Certainly it's not the amateur league player. According to Mitch Laurence when watching the 2004 semis and finals on TV, there were something like 9000 amateurs at last year's BCA event in Vegas. Now the amateurs are being forced to split into two organizations. The BCA is holding their nationals in Vegas in May, while the ACS is holding their nationals in Reno a few weeks before.

It even affects us here in the forums because we don't all have the same opportunity to meet others of us at "the nationals" any more. When it was just BCA, we could collectively talk about the BCA tournament in Vegas, but now some of us will be BCA and some of us will be ACS and whatever nationals we attend, if any, will be significantly reduced in size, I'm guessing. (Yes, I know I'm ignoring VNEA and APA for now...)

One of our local BCA leagues has switched to ACS, and the other is staying BCA. I guess I should be thankful that at least I'm fortunate to live in a city where I have a choice, but which should I choose?

And what about dual sanctioning? Perhaps the "solution" is simply going to be that amateur players will have to pay twice now and will play in dual sanctioned leagues and get their choice of Vegas, Reno or both? Most players I know work for a living, so can't take off that much vacation...

I don't know what to do!

I agree. In the end this hurts the sport and the player. My league went with the ACS. It was a no brainer for these guys when they found out the Nationals would be here in Reno. No need for hotels, a days drive all that. I am not sure how I feel about it all though. Why did they change something that worked so well for so long?
Both the BCA and ACS are now claiming that each organization is using unfair business practices. Its a bit like a small civil war. I.E. How can you buy / sell something no one owns? And then the ACS seems to be using BCA contact lists to stump for their cause.
Then the dual sanctioning thing came up. Our guys were already ticked that they had to pay one set of fee's. The idea of paying ACS dues and BCA dues was to much for them and they voted that out too. I said come on its only 10 bucks but I guess that’s the way it is.
If it was not for my loyalty to my league, I would have left the ACS/BCA and just joined the USPPA. How ever I run a team and have worked hard to build this league over the last few years. My biggest fear is that with all the infighting going on, that the league will just vote to go unsanctioned by anyone next year. Then no Nationals for me .... Anywhere.
So as to who is winning? I can't say. Depends on who’s propaganda you read. As for who is losing. Why that’s you and me bro. And anyone else that plays the game.

Bca/acs

Ain't that the truth. We held off on who to go with in our league. We could probably go with either one. But the problem with that is the state events. I guess if we don't go with who the state assoc goes with, then we can't compete in the state events any more. Now the league is talking of going valley and throwing another fruit into the mix. One thing is for sure, it is always the innocent bystander that gets hurt. That is all of us pool players that just want to play pool and not have to contend with politics.

BCA or ACS which way to go???

I am still trying to hang in there with BCA.

Just dislike the way this transaction went and feel more toward the BCA.

I can not likely go to both BCA and ACS so I will likely not go to either.

If I go I lean toward BCA in LV.

I live to go down to Vegas to play and compete at the Bca. 9000 players it is the pinnacle of armature pool.. It is too bad that the Acs didn’t wait to see if Mark Griffin just might possibly improve the BCA national tournament program. It might just turn out to be something every player would like. Acs has it’s reason’s for convincing people otherwise. I understand what they have said. BUT Not foreseeing the huge problem they were creating, blaming the wrong people. splitting up the national tournament and the local state tournaments is difficult for the players right now. I would like to give the BCA and Mark Griffin a chance to see deliver the same or even more then previously has been done before I find a different organization. Non-profit or profit makes little difference if you understand what that really is about.

Who’s winning not the players…..got to go practice pool……..
