BCA Amateur Rating Systems

Was playing 9 Ball yesterday with a young guy who was visiting his uncle. The guy was from Iowa and played real well. i asked about a Pin on his Cue Case that i believe was BCA. Also how he was rated. he stated a 9 locally where he lives in Iowa, but on a state Level a 6. Both rating are on a 1-10 Scale, and i could not understand why his rating would change from local to State Level? What is with this BCA Rating System?

Never played BCA I don't know. For me in the VNEA, the local, state, and vegas handicap rating is the same.

READ there is none

The confusion is that there is no BCA Rating System. He may have been simply telling you that he was a 9 in his local BCA league, and a 6 at the State Tournament. Again, there is no BCA Rating System.

The individual leagues are free to do whatever ranking and rating system they choose. They can even play whatever rules they want. There is a suggested handicapping system, but it's only a suggestion.

Your rating is determined by how you perform against other players in your league. It is an average of your scores over the duration of the league.

Playing 8 ball you get one point for each ball pocketed or 10 points if you win the game.( I assume 9 ball rating is similar)

Example for a league night:

game 1 you win

game 2 you make 6 balls and lose

game 3 you make 3 balls and lose

game 4 you win

your score is 10 + 6 + 3 + 10 = 29

29 / 4 = 7.25 so the rating would be a 7

So as you can see the rating is totally dependent on your competition. I'm not sure if BCA uses the same system everywhere but that is what we have used in BCA league for years. ( I guess cornerman answered this as I was writing)

That is how my BCA league works. However, if league is full of a bunch of master level players, you may win less and pocket fewer balls in non-wins, which would make your handicap lower.

And if the league has several lower level players, you would win more and pocket more balls in non-wins, which would make your handicap higher.
