BCA Hall of Fame Inductees

Bob,
I wonder if the BCA would be willing to sell the HOF?
The BCA, for better or worse, has been around for over 50 years and shows every sign of continuing for another 50. If you want to buy the Hall of Fame, what happens when you lose interest? A similar point can be made about the One Pocket HOF. While there are a lot of interested people involved with it now, what happens in five years when the people who are doing the work find that they have other things that they need to do more?

APA?

Brunswick?

Olhausen?

UPA?

Brunswick has been around twice as long as the BCA.. maybe they could purchase the HOF.

Wasn't the Prez of Brunswick just voted off , as the head, of the Board of Directors of the BCA? and now Olhausen's prez is the head of the BCA board?

Brunswick is also a major sponsor for the UPA and Dragon Promotions. And didn't Brunswick just get the APA national championship table contract? And, didn't Brunswick purchase Valley tables a couple of years ago? Just guessing, but isn't Brunswick the 'official table' of the WPBA?

Seems like Brunswick is into the pool industry alot more than the BCA is or ever was.

APA, Renee has been on the Board of Directors for the BCA for about 5 years that I know of, maybe longer. The APA also used Valley at one time for all its tournament tables, then went to Diamonds and now they are with Brunswick.

The UPA has only been around for 3 or 4 years.

Olhausen, I don't have a clue how long they've been around, but I know I've only seen a few pool rooms with their tables. I've always thought they were a funiture pool table, best for home use only.

Yes, the BCA has been around since 1947, initially starting out as the regional promoter for 14.1 tournaments.

I would assume that Brunswick would be glad to be able to take possession of the HOF and be totally responsible for the selection process and maybe make sure Charlie Williams is the youngest inductee.

Why not let the magazines like BD or IP do it? They know alot more about the players than most of the people voting now. Let them pick a voting committee made up of past and present players, heads of the leagues such as BCA, TAP, APA, etc., throw in a few cue makers, etc. Get a smattering so to speak of the billiard world. Anything is better than what they have now. I spoke with Allen about this briefly at Valley Forge this year and the year before when Ewa got the nod over him. That's why he asked to be off the ballot. It seems that there is no solid criteria for induction. You have to look at a players mertis closer than what they are doing now. No disrespect to Ewa but I think the reason she got in ahead of Allen (besides her record) but what put her over the top was the New York Times article that created a big stir. That may have put her face out there but that could happen to anyone at any given time. That shouldn't be a factor for induction. Although I will say she looks better than Allen. :)
