Once again this year, several of the busiest and most talented BCA Instructors in the nation are offering their skills to anyone interested, at the Riviera. All members of the SPF family of instructors, these guys have a lot of great advice to offer any level player. Free clinics on several topics are scheduled each day this week, and you can have the opportunity to have your stroke professionally analyzed, including a video report card, for a small fee. Stop in and learn what you DON'T know, about your stroke, or any other topic. Come see us every day this week (M-F), 11am-5pm, in Capri Room 112.

While I won't be there, I am curious as to what a video report card is.

Do you have video camera set up and film each student and sell the video tape with constructive criticism for improving one's stroke or pointing out the negatives of the filmed stroke? If so, I like that idea if it is cost-justifiable.

Go get 'em, Scott! Offering clinics like this one is a very good way to promote the sport. Something there for everyone!

Joey,

I won't speak for Scott on this particular setup, but it sounds very similar to the video analysis that begins Scott's personal lessons.

If so, let me offer this OPINION on the subject of it being cost-justifiable.

I had a lesson with Scott last week, for his normal rates. For the video analysis and ensuing discussion alone, I would have paid double what I did. Invaluable information. You can know the theory up the wazoo, but until you see what you are ACTUALLY doing (often different from what you might think you're doing) you won't improve. I'm looking forward to the results I know I'll see once I get through a few weeks of these oh so enjoyable mother drills ;)

I just want to Echo James's thoughts. I had a 4 hour lesson with Scott a couple months ago. If he had just come over, did the video analysis and then packed up and left, I would have felt like I got my moneys worth.

You are not alone. We always have students fill out a feed back form after pool school, and when asked what the student liked the most, the overwhelming majority say the video analysis. The camera doesn't lie!
By the way, aren't you glad he stuck around after the video to show you how to work on the issues you found in the video????? :)

What is "cost-justifiable" is in the eyes of the beholder. What would it be worth to YOU to know (in just a few minutes) what the good and poor points of your stroke process were? No, the student doesn't get a 'tape'. They do get to watch a few minutes of shooting specific shots that highlight their good and bad points...then they get a graded report card on ten of the most important points, that make up a repeatable setup and delivery process.
