Question? concerning 8 ball
Using BCA rules> how many balls must hit the rails on the break? If 4, what happens if only two, strike the rails

According to page 36 of the 2011 BCA Rule Book. if you do not pocket a ball on the break, then 4 numbered balls must contact a rail. Failure to do so results in the following:
incoming player may accept the table as is. or
incoming player may rerack and break, or
reracking and allowing the offending player to break again (never)

This is the correct information.

If I am playing and this happens to my opponent...I'm asking for a re-rack just about every time and taking the break. At least I know that my break is gonna get 4 balls to a rail, and more often than not, pocket a ball.

I usually know most of the rules, but I did not know this. In our BCA (non-sanctioned) league, we always re-rack and let the original breaker break. Hmmmm, I'm gonna start doing two things now. I'm gonna start checking the rack for tightness before I break, and I'm gonna take a re-rack and break 'em myself if my opponent doesn't send four to a rail (or make a ball).
