Here are direct quotes Approved June 30.2003, Constitution and by-laws of the Billiard Congress of America.

The BCA Purpose/Objectives in section 2.1 is to:
"govern and promote the sport of billiards, by promoting an sanctioning amateur and professional tournaments......while working with the entire billiards community to increase the overall growth of billiards."

Section 2.2
The objectives of this Association shall be: There are six of em here are two.

(3) To elevate billiard sports to their highest level nationally and worldwide.
(6) To promote good fellowship and better social understanding of billiard sports and the billiard industry by sponsoring billiard tournaments by the Association and by its individulal members.

Now that the BCA is distancing itself from amateur play, and probably pro play (why not) where are they headed? With 90% of all billiard equipment sales going into homes isin't it ironic how they "want" the players to represent their product but they don't want to represent the players. They sound like true hustlers, no give, all take and allot of words. BF

"they pick the apples but will never water or fertilize the tree/(billiards)"

Opinion of a foreigner....

Beeing a foreigner (though I have been in the US quite often) it is very interesting and dissapointing at the same time to realize that even in the home country of pool billiards (that is how America is percieved by foreign pool nuts) its not possible to establish something like a well organized, steady and moneywise prosperous pro tour.

I've been following the activities for over a decade now. What I hear and see is:

- the players blame the organisations
- the organisation blames the players
- industry blames both and complains about lacking support
- all blame the TV stations for not showing interest
- etc.

How can pool evolve and spread over the world (becoming olimpic etc) if it is not possible to reach a real pro level sports even in the US? Does it really take an English "bloke" like Barry Hearn (inventor of the Mosconi Cup) to get this going? Will he be able to do the same for pool as he did for snooker in the UK?

I compare it to successfull soccer players who become lousy coaches.. IMHO like in every other really successfull sport, professional management is needed. That means, management that will be paid and judged by its success, and a mangement that is not build from (former) players or the billiard industry.
Well as said before, this is just a personal opinion from an "outsider"

Reagards,
Markus

I want to be clear here. I'm not arguing with you, I'm just trying to understand what you're trying to say here.

promote and sanction amateur and pro. Isn't this a good thing?

Isn't this a good thing too? (6) To promote good fellowship and better social understanding of billiard sports and the billiard industry by sponsoring billiard tournaments by the Association and by its individulal members.
Now this, I see, could be interpreted as having an exluding attitute by sponsoring tournament by the Association and its members, but how else would they do it?
Now that the BCA is distancing itself from amateur play, and probably pro play (why not) where are they headed? Where did it say this? I know you have issues but I'm not clear from this what they are.

I know you have issues but I'm not clear from this what they are.

the sport/ the sport/ the sport / the sport/ the sport/ the sport/ the game/the game/the game/the players/the players, THE SPORT THO ALWAYS COMES FIRST.

They (BCA) are the one organization in the USA that really could move the game forward.

Rick, the skinny is, they are pulling/distancing themselves away from the players/sport, period. Their bylaws state they are supposed to promote the sport, hell the board doesn't even consider billiards a sport (no more Olympic persuit in Colorado Springs, board approved), the bulk of em are there to spend the BCA monies to improve their personal agenda, having worked in that office for two years, I know EXACTLY WHAT they are DOING.
Didn't you ever wonder WHY they don't they create the sport? The sport is what got the BCA to where they are now!!!!!!!!!!!!!, but do you see them doing more for the game than ever before?????????? or for industry sales?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? THAT'S AN EASY ANSWER. Its ironic tho, if they ever DID/DID/DID/DID/DID realize how much potential they have with their BCA name, and did make it a sport, sales of all products would be phenomenal, its why I left the organization, the board is blind about our sport and really could care less about the players. I read an earlier post RELATED TO THIS TOPIC in which a gentleman from I think Europe, commented on the rest of the worlds perception of this incredible game in the USA and how we are the founders. What a compliment to all the American players and this great game, players have made a life out of so little.

JUST REMEMBER: the industry (BCA) will definitely ride your coattails when you win. BF

Boy now that makes me feel all warm, you too???????????
