I am going to be directing a tournament in the coming weeks and I was looking around for a mobile application for the World Standardized Rules by BCA and WPA.

In my search I found out that just a few months ago BCA created a mobile app for just that for both iOS and Android.

BCA Press Announcement

AppStore for Apple

I may have missed if anyone posted this but they are selling it for $2.99.

Has anyone tried it out? I am curious to get it, but I would want to know if they are going to update the app or if they will have a new one every time the rule set is changed.

Enjoy and I hope it helps some of you out.

Does the app require internet access every time you look up a rule? If so, then its probably a web based app. Every time a new rule set is changed, then they don't need to come out with a new version. On an app where the information is stored within, then the answer is yet.

The likely case is that Apple will require the app to be updated every time they come out with a new product (iPad Mini, iPhone 5s), and drop support (iphone 3). So, my guess is 6 months to a year, and maybe 2 years max on version refresh.

I have the iphone version of the app, and while I think there is a lot more they could do with it, I think it works great. It works well in my local pool room, and in my friend's man cave.

A couple of things I really like about it is their 'Ask a Referee' section, when I am too entertained to look it up myself I just send in my question and get an official answer in writing.

The other thing I thought was neat was that they said they were putting 50% of all proceeds to a proplayer travel fund.

Otherwise, no real complaints about it.

Hey CallShot,

Do you know, like ctyhntr asked, if this app can be used offline?

That is a great question and I would like to know if that is a feature or not.

Yes, the app will work with out being online. The app by itself is pretty straight forward, and since it is a rules (text) app it doesn't need to be connected to the internet to work. Once you download it - it's yours forever - where ever you need it.

With all that said, the 'Ask the Ref' section will not work when you are not connected to the net.

Sneaky. I checked it out. I purchased. I'm weak.

Freddie <~~~ will buy anything.

There is a FREE version as well. But it doesn't have the rules for 9-Ball, 10-Ball or straight pool, those only come with the 2.99 version.

Hello

Hi Benward452

My company Miris Creative Design handles the development and design of the Billiard Rules App through the BCA. I will answer some of your questions..

1. Yes the app will be updated as the rules change, and if you already have purchased the app the updates are free.

2. The app is completely internal so no internet access is needed to use it. Altho the ask a referee section will show up you cannot ask your question without internet access.

3. The rules were last updated based off of the 2011 Official rules. The BCA revises and releases new rule books every 2 years. The 2013 rule book will be out soon and the app will be updated to reflect the new rule book as well as more planed changes to the app.

I hope I answered all of your questions..

If you have any more please feel free to ask.

Regards,

Andrew Kennedy

Is this WPA/BCA or the BCAPL rules. I think WPA/BCA were revised in 2008 (every 5 years) and are due to be revised soon.
