BCM review

First of all I will state that I do not intend to badmouth Mr. Mordt in any way. He is one of the nicest guys on the phone and through email,
and he absolutely stands behind his work. I have debated posting this for a few months and something happened recently that has prompted me
to finally write this down.

That being said, here's the story.
I bought a brand new BCM cue from someone here (a cue dealer) on AZ. It was a beautiful cue with Thuya burl points into BEM at a fair price.
Deal was made, cue was shipped. I received the cue and inspected it. Very nicely executed point and finish work. The cue hit very nicely,
not too soft, not too stiff. The problem was the cue had a wobble. I located it by rolling the cue on four separate pool tables, it was in the butt.
In the forearm, when rolled, the cue lifted off the table AT LEAST 1/16th of an inch. This made the cue wobble like crazy when put together.
If I were buying a cheap used cue, this wouldnt bother me so much, but this was a very expensive purchase for me. I called Bryan and told him
about my concern. On the phone he INSISTED that I send the cue back, I kind of wanted to keep it anyway because it played nicely and looked fantastic.
But at his insistence that I have a cue that was perfect for me, I sent it back.

A week later he emails saying that yes the butt is warped and he will make me a cue of my design. So we agree on a design, and he gets to work.
Now the reason I bought this one was, in part, because I didn't want to have to wait for one, but oh well, I'm a patient guy. Four months later,
I get my new cue. Again, the cue is visually stunning, but the points weren't straight, I think he rushed it. First thing I check is the straightness.
Yup--the butt is not straight.
This one is even worse. I call Bryan and he agrees to take the cue back and offers to either: refund my money, or send me a cue that he has just finished.
So I say send out the cue, if I like it, it will be fine. I get the cue, and again the butt is warped.

I call Bryan and ask for a refund, which he promptly agrees to, says he'll send a check out next week. Two months and several emails later, I
finally recieve a check. Six months I had quite a bit of money tied up in this deal.

I understand that the cuemaking business is a hard one, and I don't blame him for not having the funds available to send until he sold a few more
cues. It was just frustrating as a buyer. I needed that money to buy a different cue, and had to wait.

Now am I the only guy that happened to get the only three warped cues he has ever built? Possibly. I think more likely it happens alot and people don't
notice or care. I don't want him to lose business because of this post, I only intend to inform buyers. I wish I had read a review like this before
deciding to buy.

Thanks for reading and take it with a grain of salt.........

Peace,
~DC

The time frame for your refund was a Long One, but in the End you did get your money. ;)

Bryan Just moved his Shop, and just got Marred so maybe he had his mind in other places..... ;)

Like I said: "but in the End you did get your money. ;) "

That's no excuse, in my opinion.

Yes, I finally did get my money.

I have one of Bryan's cues and it's straight. I wish I could say the same for my stroke. :D

Sounds like he did right by you, what are you complaining about. You also sort of give him a backhanded insult as being too broke to give you a refund but then say you yourself are too busted to buy a new cue till you get the money from him. Sounds like you are in the same boat so there was no need for the comment. Either way you got your money and he did right by you so there is no need for this post in the first place other then to make yourself sound like some victim which you were not. As for why all the cues were not straight, that is a mystery, making a straight cue is the least of the cue makers problems. I am surprised he sent the cues knowing you would complain if they weren't perfect. He really should have just given you refund on the first cue and ended it. I hope he has learned a lesson about dealing with certain customers. He seems to have bent over backwards although the results were not good and still got slammed by you on a public forum.

My question to you is- how come you didn't send it back to the cue dealer that sold you the cue and deal with him what made you send it back to Bryan Mordt
I had bought a cue from Bryan a couple of years ago and it was as straight as an arrow when I got it and when I sold it 2 months ago on ebay to someone in Taiwan , it did have a tiny pin head indent in the Butt that wasn't enough to make a fuss about but Bryan said for me to send it back and he would take care of it but it was so insignificant that I said forget it!

You mentioned something has happened to prompt you to write this down. What was it?

I have always found Bryan to be exceptionally helpful to deal with.

I tried. I contacted him and he told me to call Bryan. I think they worked something out.

I'd rather not say because, apparently, it will seem that I am insulting him and his cues, which I am not.

Chris

I agree completely.

To reply to you in detail would be a waste of time, as you have already judged me, and I don't think there is anything I could say that would change your mind. I will only say that I am not slamming him.

I disagree completely, it should be priority number one. Who wants an expensive custom warped cue?

I am implying that it is easy to make straight cues and three brand new cues in a row that are not straight is a mystery.

Do the right thing and delete this whole thread.

I think that would be wrong in a Free Society, let people make their own judgements.

As I said the Gentleman got his money in the End. Bryan made it right.... ;)

Actually I went back and read some of your past postings before replying and I found numerous postings knocking cues and cue makers, it seems to be your thing. A few after knocking the cue you then go on to say you have never even seen or played with one. It was on some of that I based my opinion of your post. Nothing he could have done would have satisfied you yet he tried and you of course came here and knocked him. We also have only your version of the story and from reading your past postings it is suspect as to the complete truth of this story. Like I said in my other post you should delete this whole thread.

I will say EMPHATICALLY once more that I am not complaining or knocking BCM cues. This is one persons experience. The cue was not in my posession for a month, on the contrary, I had it one day (each of them). I don't believe that Bryan knowingly shipped me cues that were warped, and he did make it right. That is a huge part of why I posted this. I had a concern, he corrected it. I just wanted the info out there for anyone who might like to know. I am considering buying another of his cues and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Everyone makes mistakes, and Bryan did his best to get me a cue that I liked, it just didn't work out this time. Thanks to everyone for their input/insults.

Have a nice day, hit 'em straight.
Peace,

Posting this thread you know you where gonna take a beating, you say you were just trying to inform people but even the smallest black mark for a cue maker is not a good thing. My wife and my self both own BCM's the cues are perfect in every way, they are straight as an arrow, the playability is great, and the work is second to none!
