Recently I saw a situation personally where someone got a new case and they put a moderately expensive cue in it for the first time. Something was inside the case, either a mistake by the maker or possibly dropped into the case. Whatever it is scratched the hell out of the cue, leaving deep gashes.
Now, this is a relatively rare occurrence but it does happen. My suggestion is to have a beater cue that you can use to test cases that are new to you just to be on the safe side.
The seller of the case did instantly offer to pay whatever it took to fix the cue. The owner of the cue was relieved that it was only the $1000 cue that was damaged and not the 3k one.
And no, I am not going to tell you the names of any of the parties involved so don't ask. This is merely a public service announcement to warn everyone that the unthinkable sometimes actually happens. You should take a few moments to check the interior of a new (to you) case before sticking your best cues in it.
That's all.
