Beginner that needs help finalizing decision!

The #1 joint is there traditional joint. If you get a 3/8x10 you can buy other brand shafts to fit if needed. With the #1 joint you are stuck with their shafts.

Tbh i figure the next time i buy a cue its gonna b a whole new stick so im not particularly worried about that, just looking for the best option on this one

Ok since I'm ordering a cue on monday/tuesday I've finally narrowed it down to my final 2.

The specifics are going to be 19oz, 12.5mm tip, Triangle tip...
Last thing i need help on is whether to get a 5/16" dia 18tpi brass pin & insert or 3/18" dia 10tpi wood to wood?

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ those two are both the same just one is Bocote wood and one is Rosewood. Im sort of leaning towards the Rosewood since the Bocote cues I see are usually "hit or miss" when it comes to looks but I've also read that its a great players cue.

I would go with the 5/16" dia 18tpi brass pin & insert. Seems to be a standard as it was the same with all the Sneakies I have owned.

Only thing im worried about is it not giving as good of a feel or response as wood to wood would... But i might b absolutely crazy lol

If you're not getting an origianal Schmelke brass joint, why even get a Schmelke? The brass to brass joint is the trademark joint by Schmelke and has the best hit and balance.:slap:

Heck, you might as well buy something else for half the price and same quality if you go with a different joint.:poke:

At least when you get one with the brass to brass joint, when you finally decide to scrap the cue at least the brass will be worth something.

After all this I know you will love your new Schmelke no matter what joint you get.:deadhorse:

ya people r saying "dont get the schmelke joint because u cant change the shaft" but to be honest if ima upgrade the shaft in the future im just gonna buy a whole new stick so really im just looking for the best joint for this cue right now

Lets go atlanta falcons!

Due to all the help ive gotten from this thread ima post a review reply in this thread once i get the cue to help people who might read this thread in the future

you know, that's easy to say, but then if you saw someone put up a blued up, lightly dinged predator 314/2 for sale here for $70 in 3/8x10 or 5/16x18 you might kick yourself. Also, once you are playing for a while you may find (particularly if you get into league) that you want 2 shafts just in case for whatever freak chance a tip busts off.

Like with a lot of other things, there isn't a "right" joint. The feel difference between a 3/8x10 wood-wood and a 5/16x18 wood/wood isn't that big. I haven't shot with the shmelke joint to make a good statement on it, but a bigger/heaver metal to wood joint can definitely feel nice as well (I've got a uniloc). The further forwards balance can be a plus or minus based on your arm length and comfort spots :)

ya u actually make a good point :D

One more minor item to consider...

If you keep your Schmelke cue and use it for a break cue later, the 13mm shaft will be a bit stiffer than a 12.5, given the same taper.

It sounds like you are off to a great start on your first cue.

Keep me posted on how you like it.

Hopefully your college game room tables are better then the one's at UNF.
At least they were "free.":grin-square:
Look at some of the practice drills and fundamentals on Dr. Dave's web site too.
Every little bit helps.
Good luck with your school.

Take care,
Jeremy
