Bell Forest Robbed at Expo. Donations Needed

And CueMan I understand you are trying to help out your friends. You had to figure some of the hostility would happen. Some of us have maybe never even held $20000 in our hands. Not many times anyway. When people who have had it rough see somebody getting free money we flip out. Best a lot of us have ever gotten in hard times is nothing or a loan that needed to be paid back.

Others have never had it rough, but have done everything in their power to make something for themselves and it’s hard to donate to a cause like this. To just lay around $20000 that means they have dealt with that much $$$ more than once. They have $10000 back from their “friends” already. That should be more than enough to help them too.

Also when you post about a go fund me people are gonna be negative. A lot of us have no soliciting signs outside and private property signs, etc. How about you CueMan? Do you have those signs up? If so maybe you can relate. You are essentially soliciting when mentioning a go fund me and a lot of people don’t agree with it. It’s for your friends so you aren’t thinking that way.

I’m a landscaper and have had my equipment stolen more than once. My customers don’t help pay for new equipment. Thats how a lot of people feel. I was pissed off and can understand how they must feel but it’s their own fault as it was mine. I left my equipment out-it got stolen. Once I left my truck on the street with the key in it and it got stolen too.

These gofundmes have gotten old for people. “Lady is gonna lose her house help her.” What you don’t know is she refuses to work at McDonalds. People want details to donate. There are too many scams nowadays. The exact same thing was going on here in the local APA league last year. Every month there was another go fund me on their Facebook page for another player that was having a rough time. First there was a car accident. I was going to donate but didn’t because I couldn’t get details on if he’d been drinking. Then an old guy died-like it wasn’t coming. I finally said something when the smoker had cancer. Everyone called me a douchebag. They said we were a community. I don’t care. Guess I’m the bitchy old guy on the corner in this community. Get off my lawn. Haven’t seen another gofundme on their page since. Of course I did stop following it after that.

Sorry for the rant. It just always goes this way when a gofundme is mentioned anywhere these days. Be prepared for drama.

OK- I read it- so these guys supposedly left a bag with $20,000 cash inside an unattended vehicle, and you want us to pay them for such stupidity? I mean, never in my life would I leave $20,000 cash inside a vehicle unattended - are you kidding?
The police blotter makes no mention of an armed " robbery" -- it is listed as being stolen out of a vehicle- robbery is normally referred to as person to person theft.
Mike,

Robbery is generally a criminal act committed against another person, versus burglary which would be considered a property crime. Some time ago, the CA courts ruled that unlike robbery and theft, burglary is generally viewed to be a property crime.
However, when a person enters a building, room or locked car while planning to commit a petty theft or a felony, in CA, that person is charged with the crime of robbery, not burglary. Some might say this is a distinction without any difference.

i would tell them face to face what i said here. if someone asks for you to give or do something you should tell them your reasons for your decision.

this is a place to discuss and give opinions on things, and most things are not off limits or repressed as long as you follow the guide lines.

many dont like to hear or see what offends them or isnt in agreement with their views. that is more than sad.
No one is compelling anyone to contribute anything. An unfortunate situation happened to a cue maker supplier, a cue maker feeling empathy for them started a “go fund me” in an attempt to help them. If people reading this thread felt empathy and chose to contribute then great. If they’re not interested, for whatever reasons, then they could choose not to contribute and move along. No need for nasty comments, or in YOUR case, multiple comments saying the same thing over and over that question the motive, call them ignorant for making the mistake of putting it in the truck or to call those that choose to be empathetic and contribute foolish or stupid for doing so.

You say this place is for opinions, well here’s an opinion for you. The better majority of your posts on this forum seem to be centered around money and revealing how cheap a nit you are. You shit all over this thread offering people a chance to help someone. You start a thread telling people that they’re paying to much for their cues when in both instances of that thread and this one, it’s really not your concern what others do with their money, either in how much they spend on a cue or whether they contribute it to help others. You want to hold onto every nickel you ever had squeezing it until the image of Jefferson on the nickel screams, then go ahead.

See now Colonel. There are 2 sides to that nickel. Some of these nasty comments are probably helping donations. They are keeping the thread bumped and in turn more people are seeing it. Don’t get me wrong by the long comment. Id probably give something if I had it to give. Like a $20 or something. Only because somebody spent the time to ask and are a part of AZB. But I’d donate $1-5 to shooter Hans’ cue too if he really asked for donations and I had it.😂😂

I would be hesitant to donate. I'm not a fan of these gofundme campaigns unless it involves life or death.
As the facts are stated, I am very sorry for their loss. I'm disgusted at the way society is allowing rampant crime to go unpunished. As devastating as it may be for a small business like this, they should have had ample insurance to cover a situation like this. That being said, I'm in agreement with shooter_Hans regarding the emergence of the GoFundMe movement. There are times and situations where it may be appropriate, but it is often abused for causes that are not worthy. If I donated to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that has a GoFundMe page, begging on a street corner, or asking for a political donation, I would need my own GoFundMe page. We have seen the misuse of funds by groups like Black Lives Matter. It is a pathetic show of our character and our culture that everyone feels the need that they are entitled, without shame, to beg for their irresponsibility or greed. So please, never start a GoFundMe page in my name if I am able-bodied and capable of solving the problem myself, because I sure as hell will not ask a stranger for anything.

*My statement above is only my general viewpoint and does not reflect the character or values of anyone or group mentioned in this thread.

My ex-girlfriend of 7 years recently lost her father. We lived together when we were together. She had got engaged with someone.

My brother gave the family $500 and I gave $1000 and told her if she needed additional help just ask.

Her fiancé? He set up a go fund me. It’s nice of him but the funeral costs were most likely covered. Basically that was the first thing he thought of. I know she would be embarrassed to accept it if funded.

I know of a very similar situation. A person passed away without any family. A certain individual headed the funeral and collected a lot of money via gofundme and other sources. Supposably had him cremated and ashes spread in another state. No one was notified, no funeral and none of the money was returned. She ended up pocketing a large portion. Buyer beware and donator beware.

If I could delete the thread I would.
Don’t. Your intentions are noble. The readers will decide what they want to do. I like the idea of a few cues built for a fundraiser/raffle. Disregard the hate mail. It goes with the territory. Stay positive.

I got an idea. Why don’t a group of Cue Makers get together and each donate a cue. Then all the secondary market Cue Flippers get together and each donate a cue. Then have a series of auctions. Then with 75% of the proceeds you could start a non profit that helps the entire pool community. Then these guys that got robbed could be the first beneficaries.
Good idea. And the cue makers will get good exposure (not that they need it).

i dont feel sorry for someone who does a stupid thing and suffers a monetary loss. its a good lesson.

if they get physically assaulted then its a different thing.

the asking for money is fine but belongs on the mechanics site or the peoples home site.

that is my opinion and we all have opinions so take them for what they are.

I think what many have mentioned is the relax nature and how casual it is for people to donate money through an XYZfundme page. Where does it end? Casually setting up a fund me campaign and expect people to donate.

I’m surprised there isn’t a go fund me for someone that got their Black Boar stolen out of their car.

Another way of helping is add extra $$ to a purchase. Like tipping or buy more from them . Take advantage of specials or deny the discount.

How much did the SBE donate for not having security on the loading dock? Thats my question. It seems really odd that there would be pedestrians anywhere near the loading dock also. Was it another vendor that robbed them maybe?
I've been to cue shows, gun shows, car shows, you name it. None of them have ever had paid security in the load/unload areas. Not the show's fault here. This was stupidity and i'm sure they learned their lesson on handling their $$ in the future.

Fat chance. Unless there's a body there ain't a cop/department alive that will do forensics. Even fingerprinting is rarely done. This ain't the movies and most law enforcement can't be bothered to investigate a theft.
No shit. I laughed at 'forensics'. Yeah like the local yokels are gonna go all 'CSI' on this. They'll never catch these guys. ONLY chance is camera footage(doubtful) or someone turns them in.

Well I have fallen behind and have not read the latest posts. With that said, the conversation reminds me of the times I asked for help. I would stand beside the road with arm extended and thumb up. I was asking for a ride. At the same time I was offering conversation and companionship. Something of value to a long haul driver.
When I was in need of money one time when stranded in Denver, I found the Day Labor office and immediately went to work to earn $22 for a days work. I worked just as hard as if I was making scale. At that time it would have been $10 an hour. The contractor took my "work ethic " as commendable and said, "come back tomorrow and I will pay you $10/hr. CASH For as long as you want to work. I spent the week and left town on my thumb with scratch in my pocket. It's possible to do as well flying cardboard at the freeway entrance, just not my style. 🤷‍♂️
