Beloit, WI - The Carom Room - $1000 Added - Sept 12 - Open 9-ball

Duane-

I'll be there. I am bringing a buddy as usual. He should be in the no masters, but I am selfish and needed a road partner so I put him together on this one.

See you soon!

Demetrius

Selfish  After looking at those brackets from last weekend you might consider flying

We'll see 'ya on Saturday either way.

A great turnout of 57 players for the first open event of the season. Over $6000 in total payouts.

Please check the website in a few days for results & player lists.

How did it end?

How did it end?

Late.... We should have changed the race on the 1-loss side to 8 or 7 so the losers side didn't quite finish by 2:30. The final 5 players left agreed to do a chop of the money rather than come back for a 2nd day.

We will be setting new guidelines for the races versus number of players over the next couple of weeks to try to eliminate that situation in the future.

i don't get it... people show up to a 60 player double elimination event and expect it to be done in 14 hours? The people that are in the top 5 got paid nicely between the calcutta and the tournament payout. Quit being cheap and get a motel room for $30. If you came with someone that is no longer in the tourney and doesn't want to stay for another day, he should buy you a bus ticket for you or something. IDK, it just seems to me that people have unreal expectations sometimes. The calcutta payout makes it worth it to show up for a second day... so why not come back for a second day? Plans for sunday with the family? Plan better next time. Tired and sore after a grueling first day? So are the other guys...

Are these 1 day tournaments????

Yes, all regular events are scheduled for 1 day. In the event of a large field the races may be shortened by 1 game at the tournament directors discretion.

All division final events are scheduled for 2 days and the race will not be shortened. You can find this information on the flyer as well.

You really don't get it! When I show up to an advertised 1 day tournament I expect it to be a 1 day tourney...people do have plans, do you really think it was an issue of a $30 motel? I mean c'mon jbravo think a little bit...It wasn't like I was the only one who couldn't come back the next day...Baraks and Demetrius also could not come back. As far as getting paid nicely...it's pretty brutal to spend 14 hrs playing pool, 6.5 hrs on the road, and not have a shot at the extra $1000 or so that was out there. Could I have lost my next match....sure....but we'll never know, will we?

With all that being said, like I stated earlier, I'll be back. I love the pool hall and people there. I'm sure Dave and Duuane will have it figured out next time, and lets face it I will have to get lucky to get that far with that field again anyway. So let bygones be bygones.....and we'll see you next time.

Once again......Duane runs the tournaments......and...

Where in this flyer does it say 1 day? It says they will attempt to finish in 1 day, but that's it. Doesn't guarantee anything.

Please read the thread before posting.....I'm over it!

Thanks, Scott

Yep, having to chop up the money versus playing with the chance to make even more money is not a good thing and defintely not what we (Dave, Carlos & myself) want. The TDs made the mistake plain & simple.

However you run a tournament there are always limitiations and changes. We will definitely be more proactive with the races and timing and will make the necessary adjustments in order to finish the event and give everyone the opportunity to make the big cash!

Thanks for the comments as well as playing. See you all again on the 26th (nm 9-ball) and the 3rd (open 8-ball).

I personally want to apologize to the five players who didn't get the chance to finish this tournament (and also to any calcutta bidders who had these horses). This was an error on our part by not adjusting the race on the loser's side. In the future we will do everything possible to try to finish these events in one day. This includes speeding up the draw with tournament software. Every minute counts in these situations.
I don't want to do anything to affect future turnouts. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

good times

Dave, Duane and Carlos did a great job as usual.

There is a good reason that things went the way they did. I didn't want to comment, but these guys don't deserve any type of critisism.

James Baraks won the hotseat. He wanted to get home as it was 2:00AM and he was planning on one day. He asked the other players if anyone cared if he just took a split on first and second. No one did.

Now I was sitting guarenteed 3rd playing for 2nd. If James was still in I would still be in contention to win, but with him out I would be coming back on day 2 for one set of pool to determine a small payout difference. I was there with a buddy from out of state and both had other plans for Sunday. Again, no one complained that I took a chop of 2nd and 3rd. This resulted in a domino effect and led to the overall chop.

No one there was crazy about it, but we were all ok with it and enjoyed the time there. Based on the situation we had 100% support and the TDs simply allowed the players to do what they want.

Looks like the tournaments will be modified to avoid this in the future. On top of that they are getting new equipment? This is to good to be true.

I live in MN and am willing to drive 6 hours to play tournaments, and this is the best bang for the buck in the midwest right now. 1 day, good added money, champions in the field, stunning calcutta, good equipment, and action available. Thanks guys, you are keeping me motivated to keep playing. I'll see you on the 3rd for the 8 ball!
