So I was looking for a cue to leave in the car for those emergency pool scenarios.
I could always get something cheap (like a players/viper/etc), but I didn't want to spend more than $30 on this...and those were out of the range.
Then I found a $27 sneaky pete on Amazon that may have served the function, but given the price of the cue and Chicago's Humid Hot and Freezing cold seasons, it was almost a full guaranteed ticket to warp city.
So maybe I should just get a Cuetec, or one of those fiber glass cues.... but even checking on Craigslist, most were $40-$50, which full fiberglass and SST shaft cuetecs being $80! Blasphemy!
Then one day on an ebay browse, there it was, "Graphite Snooker cue.... $9.99, $.12.99 shipping. Needs a tip" . I knew my search was finished.... It shouldn't warp, the small diameter tip will make it LD (in theory lol), and the strong snooker taper should let me really beat the living snot out of this thing.
Digging deep into my portfolio, I set my big at a ridiculous amount......of $10.00. I was not willing to pay a dime more. As I sat, waiting out the remaining 48 hours, wondering if there would be a competing winning bid of $10.01.
No one did. It was mine to keep.
I've been doing my own Tip installs for a while and while not lathe perfect, they certainly were functional and held on. This was a stock Schon Layered tip I just and preserved. It was revivied as this cue's tip. A nice stiff hit, good grip, my car cue was complete!
Went to hit with it at the pool hall friday. Love the way it plays. A buddy was in town and was let me shoot with his purple heart Cog. When I ask him if he wanted to try my new magic cue, he gave me a look that was the love child of disgust and insult.
Then I proceeded to run the last 4 balls left on the table, which included the banks being open on Friday night.
I even broke hard with it. Color of money digging deep hard on the snap vincent break. Perfectly fine.
This is the best bang for buck I've ever had. I now have my emergency league/bar beater...maybe travel cue?
