Hate the Measle Ball!
I'm really glad you started this post. I've shot with a measle ball in the past, but not really enough to notice a difference...then the other night I get on a 9 footer, am shooting a guy, shooting well, pretty much run him off. Then another guy walks up with a really nice high end Espiritu cue and asks to play. He brought his own measle ball. I win the first four games, then start losing. That ball felt like I was poking a bowling ball! The heaviest CB I've ever seen. I was sure it must be a bar box CB, but measured it with the other balls and it was close enough to be a standard CB. I hefted it with the red dot CB that came with the set on the table, and it felt at least 50% heavier. Damnedest thing I ever saw. The reaction between the OB and the measle ball was totally different than other CBs I normally run into, it tended to run faster after contact, tough for me to control. I'm sure some will come on here with proof it weighs the same, but I'll never believe it. Don't like it, no sir.

I have both of these CB at home and like them both. However, I've noticed the red circle CB to be more lively than the measle ball. It's not any lighter that I can tell, but I can definitely tell the difference when trying to move the ball. So, I use them both on a regular basis. The red circle to play games, and the measle to practice with. Those dots on the ball make it easy to tell just how close I'm hitting where I'm aiming.
The measles ball weighs 169 grams......it matches the weight of the Centennial pool balls and I'm sure some other versions as well.
There are much lighter cue balls by as much as 12-13 grams......14 grams is a 1/2 ounce......pool balls are allowed under equipment
specifications to vary within a set by as much as 1/2 ounce.......Yipes......that means you could play with a set of balls that no two balls
were the same weight, including the cue ball, and that set could be used legally in "any" amateur or professional tournaments.......what
an absolutely horrible, stupid rule that is.....as you've experienced with actual play as the Cadetman described in his post.

Red dot, measle, rempe trainer. Subtract 3g for paper towel. My red dot and measle balls play exactly the same as each other.
I'm thinking this guy had a counterfeit measle ball...I've since played with measle balls in regional tournies and was moving them about the same as a red dot (a little more sluggish, but close). That guy's measle ball (and some others I've run into out there) was WAY heavier.
