Best Break Cue on the Market

I would like to hear various opinions on the best break cues out on the market. Using factors like break speed, control, grip, etc. I am sure there have been forums for this before and if someone has a link I would appreciate it. Thank you

I believe the general consensus on this would be the predator BK3, most pros use this as their break. I have used fury, poison, BK2,3, and some less known production break cues. TBH a break cue can only help you so far, it's largely dependent on the table (each table breaks differently, you'll have to find the sweet spot), the rack, and what games you are playing. My daily break is a Fury break I won off from a tournament a long time ago, phenolic tip, a little thicker shaft, probably around 13 mm, leather wrap.

It gives me the best combination of speed and control, and I feel most comfortable using it, as I can park the cue ball most of the time in the center. If I use the BK3 with the same stroke and power, it probably would yield a different result. I think the important lesson to take away is to stick to one break cue and break a million racks.

My playing cue which is a Meucci breaks fine.

I use a Tiger green Emerald tip.

But if anyone wants to buy a $60 dollar J&J, I got 'em.

:D

Yes you can do a search here and view the other threads. This has been inquired about many times. Unfortunately, I don't believe any of the threads yielded a concrete answer, just varying opinions. I haven't seen any studies done that prove or disprove anything, only some general guidelines.

I'd love to see some kind of competitor comparison chart among break cues, but I doubt such a thing exists (I've been looking).

You might ask yourself "What is the best break cue FOR ME?", which might help you down the right road. Phenolic/non-phenolic, do you want the ability to adjust weight, do you want to pay the unbelievably ridiculous prices some of them cost thanks to their good marketing departments, etc etc.

Money isn't too much of a problem as i know you get what you pay for a lot of times in the pool world. Adjusting the weight slightly would be nice, not sure on the phenolic or leather tip, and would like a rubber or sport grip. I appreciate the info so far and keep the thoughts/ideas coming.

I played a long time breaking with the standard leather tips. When I borrowed a friend's breaker a few times to mess with the phenolic tip, it was quite an adjustment (for me anyway).

A good approach might be to test-drive some sticks from friends or people in your local rooms. I'm sure you can find someone with a Predator and the other well-known ones. See what feels good to you.

And get that breakspeed app for your cell phone if you don't have it already. That thing's nice. Wish I had that when I was a young player growing up :-)

My first breaker was an OB Break cue (1st gen) which I got 2 yrs ago. I then sold it after 6 mos and got a Mezz PB PRO w/ H shaft & then a PB Kai a month after it was released. I sold the 2 mezz cues 2 mos. ago and I currently have a Mezz PB II w/ Deep Impact shaft & OB Break cue (1st gen.).

IMO, the OB is the best for me because it's not as pricey as the Mezz, I like that it has the right amount of stiffness (actually is the least stiff among the bunch), the Samsara tip enables for greater control and the butt compliments the shaft very well. The only thing that could be better is that OB should have made the butt slightly slimmer as it does feel thick.

Anything with a stiff shaft, probably fuller diameter (13mm or so), and close to your playing cue's weight or lighter with Samsara tip.

I have been absolutely killing the 1P break with my player :p

as far as hard breaks go.....whatever you can be most consistent with

I have a friend that has a barely and I mean barely used Pechauer break cue, and an original Mezz power break for sale. I can ask him how much if you are interested. One is MINT, the other is EXCELLENT.

I have a Predator BK2 and love it. It was my choice after doing some research and asking around. Of course if I was buying one now I would be getting the BK3, but now that I have the BK2 I plan to stick with it for life.

I really like the McDermott Stinger. For the money its as good as the more expensive ones IMHO.

There is no such thing like best break cue.
I tried over 10 break cues with prices starting at 35$ to 600$ and i can say you can perform well with any of them if you have a good breaking stroke and you put time practicing your break. I'm using Mezz Power Break II for 3 years and I'm happy with it, I put a tennis over grip on the butt (I can't play with wrapless cues) and now I have a better control on my break.
My advice will be to put a leather break tip on your cue, with a phenolic tip will be harder to control the cue ball.

It is all relative to what you like for sure. I've tried just about everything on the market and here's what I found.

My favorite actually was a Lomax jump/break before I had one custom built by a custom cuemaker and then I had another built just a little more fine tuned. The Lomax jump/break was almost perfect. Broke great didn't jump excellent but good. Samsara tip.

I then bought an ebony Lomax breaker and I honestly felt like it was a little clunky and minimum weight was 20.5oz which I like 19.5oz. His 3 piece jumper was nice but too light for my liking. I couldn't stand carrying all that around as well. So my goal was to have something custom made.

Yes I'm Jim Vest's main dealer but I've had over 700 cues come through my hands and I can tell you I'm not just drinking the koolaid. These cues are awesome!!!

I wanted ONE SINGLE cue that can be weight adjustable from 18.5oz to 21oz and hit super stiff and have a jump extension for long and reaching jumps.

Jim's break and jump/break cues hit super stiff/hard as he uses a complete phenolic joint without joint pins just going straight into wood. He uses a G10 ferrule and a Samsara tip standard. You can get them in maple painted black or stained BEM, or curly maple at a great price. You can upgrade to exotic woods for a little more like Cocobolo, ebony, purpleheart, ziricote, rosewood, or really anything not super rare or Burl. The Burl woods packages are designed by me and are my stock woods and are stabilized then used to make the cue.

Here's what I REALLY makes the package so much better. HOW ABOUT A 6oz STABILIZED MAPLE SHAFT AND A 6" matched jump extension for long jumps. This really is the best I've seen or used out there.

My cue is buckeye Burl with an Ebony triple segmented Ivory ringwork handle and yeah it's fancy but it's to show what we can design and build.

Below is the cue mentioned above and my old one I sold a friend recently that was bacote and wenge.

These cues start at $449 with the roughly 6oz stabilized maple shaft and the 6" jump extension and go to $899 with Burl as well.

I have a super good break cue that I always take with me every time I play.
But, for me, the best break cue on the market, is my playing cue...although you could say it's not on the market...lol.
But the actual break cue hardly goes out of the case.
That's because I'm used to always breaking with my player.

Did you see SVB play at the 2015 tournament? Used his play cue for everything except the jump shots.

Just use whatever breaks the best in your hands, that's always the best break cue.

Just saw Shane play here in SWFL. He broke with his playing cue (Cuetec) but they were playing One Pocket. Lol.

Practicing 9 ball he did break with his playing cue as well though.

FYI- I used to play and break with my first cue for 10 years. It was a Meucci too.
