Best budget cushions?

That depends on which profile you're looking for, K55 or K66, need to be a little more specific
Championship cushions would include Mercury, Proam and Tour Edition. Tour Edition being the best of them and a little more expensive but still almost half the cost of the top brands. I would go with the Tour Edtion have never had an issue with them or any complaints.

I also am guilty of not measuring the subrail angle or face width. i strongly suggest any owner trying to perform this operation without experienced supervision pay close attention to those factors as it seems they are the very HEART and SOUL of rail performance.
Although i feel that the "Artemis" cushions are a worthwhile investment in a table rebuild project, I dont believe that their are any inherent issues or problems with the Tour Edition cushion design. It is my belief that when used in the correct application and conforming to all install requirements they would fit the needs of many table owners seeking good performance.

Please don't judge the Championship product line as inferior due to any of my previous posts in "cushion reponse problem" topic. I feel that the results I obtained and my disappointment in the overall outcome were directly attributed to my inexperience in the field. As careful as I was (and believe me I was very meticulus in the install process) I feel I failed to insure the subrail angle was correct and that this is the main factor in the underperforming result that I obtained. I believe the Championship product line has solid research and testing behind all that they offer!
I don't feel you would be at all disappointed in the performance of the Tour Edition cushions if properly installed!
