X-ball
This is a great one for cueball CONTROL and pattern play!
I do this once a year for a complete week and because it has become too easy I'm always trying to run out each colour + the 8 (solids + 8, put the 8 up again, and then stripes + 8). NO RAILS ALLOWED...
For rotation games:
I don't know if playing the ghost is the same, but in Germany we call it X-ball: using a 14/1 score sheet is useful!
you play 9-ball rules with X balls, depending on your skill levels. Rack the lowest ball in front, the 9 in the middle.
If you're starting with X=5 balls, you have the 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
After the break you get ball in hand.
YOU HAVE TO RUN OUT, no safety play allowed.
Running out will give you +1, not running out -1.
YOUR GOAL: getting to the next level within 40 innings (in this case X=6 balls) by reaching a score of +10!!
So 10 straight runouts will take you to 6-ball, or 14:4, 20:10, up to 25:15.
This game sets up the SAME PRESSURE as in a league or tournament - you'll see:
once you're maybe at 11:3 and you need 2 more successful runouts, a tougher layout will look almost impossible :yikes:, if you're shooting at a tough 9, it will become even more tough.
Because 12:3 or 11:4 is a big difference!
Enjoy and shoot straight...

Throw out all 15 balls, pocket in any order without missing or WITHOUT CUE BALL TOUCHING A RAIL. When you can do this regularly your cue ball control has become second nature to you
