Best kind of rail sealer?

Firstly, hello everyone

I started a fun little pool table project in my garage a few weeks ago, and have run into a few snags. The biggest one being how to seal the finish on my rails. I picked up a free american shuffleboard table off craigslist that was in need of some serious loving, and part of that consisted with a roll on truck-bed liner paint job. I sanded down the 2 coats on the rails so there is still a texture its nothing like the body or legs of the table, but its not as durable as i hoped.

There is about 10 coats of a water based semi gloss poly lightly sanded after every 2. Its fine for hand traffic, but if you draw a cue on it in certain spots it leaves a kind of discolored patch. Is there anything i can do to make it rock hard and still look good?

(i'll try to get some pics of it tonight)

can that stuff be brushed on? i dont have an air compressor near the table, just a gigantic one at my shop.

never tried

I have never tried with the newer epoxy type ( base clear+activator+thinner). I have brushed on Imron clear with varying results. It worked well once I got the thinning right and with proper surface prep. It seems that several thin coats worked better that thicker coats. A little fish eye destroyer was also a life saver.
