My buddy and I were thinking about going for a little "trip", I was just wondering where the best place to go to get some good action is? Close to the New England States preferably.
thanks

I'm guessing but from what I have read you can't go wrong in NYC or Jersey if you want to stay close to home.

I'm not sure where you hail from, but I suggest a few stopping points in no specific order.

Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hills, Pennsylvania.
A comfortable environment, EXCELLENT equipment, and good food. No alcohol, but I think smoking is allowed. Bob Maidhoff, the owner, is a strong supporter of the regional tour circuit. The first tournament of the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour is upcoming soon right here at Drexeline Billiards. Action available upon request.

Snookers in Providence, Rhode Island.
I really like the set-up of this place. Located smack in the middle of 50-plus colleges and universities, the night-time atmosphere is more like a club, with a separate room for music and dancing. Day time, it is very comfortable. Try Regina's homemade meatballs for sure. There is alcohol served, but no smoking. There is a huge wooden deck outside for smoking which is very comfortable and only a few steps away from the pool tables. Home of Joe Tucker and Steve Tavenier.

Golden Cue in Albany, New York.
A personal favorite of mine. Weekly tournaments and a strong pool culture here with MANY shooters of all caliber. EXCELLENT Italian cuisine all over this town, but Joe's Grill right next door, 10 steps away, is the BEST neighborhood tavern I've been to. Friendly people and plenty of good cheer. No smoking and no alcohol in Golden Cue.

Here's a couple to get you started! :p

JAM, you should get a jelly roll for your excellent suggestions! BTW, Mike Haines and I will be in Reno for the last few days of the IPT tournament. Are you planning to attend?

Rhode Island Billiards in Providence and Drexeline in Drexel Hill are both extremely excellent rooms. Absolutely great, top notch pool rooms. Also stop by Crown Billiards in New London, CT during the day for some action from the regulars if you like 1-pocket. I love this room too, but I might be biased as I hail from that area. If anybody knows Bobby Hunt (not Hunter) from back in the day, he calls Crown Billiards home.

RI Billiards: Upstairs to the second or third floor in an old warehouse. Great, classic feel. Great tables. Site of the Rhode Island State 9-Ball Open. Very excellent room.

Drexeline Billiards: What can I say? I always stop in when I am in the area. great environment. Good mix of players from kids to serious action. Also Bob Maidhoff has a great collection of billiards artifacts from throughout the 1900's (and maybe older) which are on display throughout the room. Great old prints and scorecards, etc.

Crown Billiards: Big room with an actual smoking and non-smoking section. Terrific pro-shop onsite featuring a lathe and all the toys. $10 to play from 11am to 6pm and the regulars are pretty solid. Action can be had later at night. Good equipment and even a full-size snooker table.

Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood, Florida. Not exactly the closest to N.E, but it's great for action. We've got players, and backers (more backers than players, so that's great for the roadies).
You can get some big cash action in just about any game (including Golf) and we're not exactly notorious for being on the stealing side either.

Gotta go to Drexeline!!! I spent a TON of time there the last time I had work in PA.....great room, good food, LOTS of action, and Bob is a FIRST CLASS guy to talk to, play, and deal with.

I missed the last invitational he had in there by one week....but made up for it by watching Bob play some 14.1 with a local. I think the spot was 150-35.....the poor bastard only shot twice, and wound up with a sum total of 12, I think. Bob can hit 'em good! :)

On a scale of 1 to 10, Bob's place is a 12!!!
