Ok, obviously i am in search for a new cue, I have done a couple stupid things this yr, lol i bought a Meucci, then got rid of my Schon LTD lol.

Obviously if i would have never bought the Meucci, i would still have my SCHON.

Now i will probably buy a new cue, in late March or Early April. i am looking to spend about 400-600$ Now i could probably spend a lil bit more and get another Schon.

I was also thinking about getting a Gilbert cue, i talked to a Guy who is a dealer for Gilbert cues, and he said, a plain jane cue starts at like 375$ and you go from there.

I like having a solid stiff hit, and little deflection. I also like having a light cue, my Schon was near 17oz.

Is there any other cues i should look at?

This has been discussed ad nauseum in the Main Forum, HotRod.

You won't go wrong with a Gilbert. Mike Webb also makes a beautiful hitting cue and his prices start in the $450 range. If price is an issue then these are the two I would look into for custom cues.

As always just my personal opinion.

For around 500+, buy DaytonaJoe's Judd JT1 in the for sale section.
No wait, just a nice cue now.

Layani Cue

Hello everyone,
I have been collecting cues for many years. With regard to the price range and the requirement posted by stromhotrod, I would like to suggest a Layani cue by Thierry Layani from Quebec, Canada. He makes a very nice cue which allows you to spin and move the cue ball with very little efforts. The deflection on the shaft is very little. I have seen players switching from a 314 to his shaft and play very well.
Thierry also builds a stiffer taper if you like to have one made for you. WPBA pro Jennifer Chen has the stiffer taper on her Layani cue.
I would recommend the exotica model with your choice of exotic wood such as bocote, cocobolo, ebony, zirocote, purpleheart...etc.
If you like a light cue, you will not want to play with anything else after you have tried his cue--they are balanced so well they all feel very light and forward balanced.
With regard to deflection, I like to ask myself this question, "no matter how little deflection might be with a shaft, if it is not consistent, what good does it do for me?"
With Thierry's conical joint which allows for a self centering and true radial consistent hit, l get a consistent feedback from my cue. I think that affects my cue ball control, which in turn affects my game, more significantly than a mere % number.
I know some players like playing with Layani with custom 314 shaft. WPBA pro Hsin Huang came 4th in this year's BCA 9 ball championship in Vegas playing with an ebony exotica model with a 314 shaft. She lost to Karen Corr placing a very respectable 4th. I believe the conical joint really reduces energy lost and offers true radial consistency--that is why it is the best combo with 314 shaft.
I personnally play with Thierry's stiffer taper and I do not really have any problem with deflection. I find his original taper to deflect even less and they seem to offer more spin with ease; nevertheless, I am so used to the true and stiff hit of my shaft I do not want to make any change. :D
I hope this helps.
Thank you very much. :)

Take a ride to one of the opens that have cuedealers and cuemakers there and take your pic. I think the Windy City and the Glass City were within your range and maybe even the DCC. If you are real brave take the ride to the Valley Forge show. At these places you can try them out, which is a big plus.

I would have to say one of Pat Diveney's cues. I have one of his sneaky petes and liked it so much that I sold all my other sticks about 6 mos after I first got it.

Most people will suggest cues that are like Lincoln, Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce, Bentley...I say get the Diveney and have the AC Cobra of cues!

Oh, he also makes fancy cues and customs!
