Starzone is long gone, marissa, but I'm glad to hear you liked it. Mark Gregory and myself were responsible for much of the design and layout. Sadly we were fighting an uphill battle against the owners much of the time.
Sorry to hear it's closed now. I remember it as a beautiful place to shoot.

1. Tulsa Billiard Palace
2. Bogie's in Houston Texas
3. Clicks in Arlington Texas

I am in Nashville and I went to JOBs... Played in their weekly 9 ball tourney and lost to Bobby Pickle... don't know why touring pros would bother with a 12 person local weekly tourney, or even why they would let him in the thing... but hey I had fun, not every day you play a pro.

I just wish they didn't stick us on a high traffic table near league play... I had no where to sit and numerous distractions... Lost 5-1 mighta done better under better circumstances.

I liked the format too... scratch double elimination race to 5 in winners bracket race to 4 in losers... Moved pretty fast.

I have been running real well..The best I have ever played at NLHE 31 out of 32 sessions. Now my gf is sending me to games instead of keeping me home. she thinks a game = shopping spree. Thinking of going next weekend to Niagara to beat up on the teenaged world poker tour wannabes. You guys should try get out one of these weekends. By the way are you interested in playing either of the Brown brothers (Dave,Bass a.k.a Mike)? I promised I would ask.

I'll play Dave some $1000 dollar set 8-ball on the big or small table. Mike will have to give me weight.

Me, I'm limited in rooms (don't travel).

#1 World Class In Peabody MA It really feels like a pool hall, no TVs no one uses the jukebox, just pool (and 4 billiard tables :p )

#2 Country Club in Chelmseford MA, it's where I started to get the pool bug, but it's more of a Bosont Billiard type of place

#3 Maxamillians in Tyngsburo MA, I really had a lot of fun playing in there leagues when I was first starting to learn how to play

Pete

World Class definately had world class billiard tables, but the pool tables sucked. If you want to play 3 cushion, you can't do better. At least this was the case a few years ago. Is it still the place to play billiards?

I loved Country Club when I played there a few times in tournaments a decade ago. The owner always treated me right because I was a player and I loved the bleachered section of the pool room.

I haven't played at Maxamillians

I did play in a tournament at Boston Billiards in Worcester and loved that room. It was smoke free and you could sit at the bar and watch the pool matches below you. Nice place.

Buster's Billiards in Somersworth, NH has a nice pool room as well where I frequent. You can almost always find a cheap game and everyone is super friendly.

Wow - that brings back memories of yesteryear. Starzone was great, but could never seem to find it's nitch or target audience. The old original Green Room in Atlanta was probably the best room of all time, at least for action, but it closed many years ago.

Mrs Cues (or Mr Cues II, I forget which is which) is a nice all-around room with a great balance of players.

I am surprised to read how much people like JOBs in Nashville. No disrespect to Jim Blaylock, Joe Blackburn, et al, but it's just not my kinda place. There's 8 or 10 regulation tables in OK shape (which never see any action), and 30+ 7' bar boxes. Smoking is a requirement, apparently, and with poor circulation/filtration, I don't recommend that non-smokers go there.

If you like bar boxes, the Music City Open that Jim sponsors is a fantastic tournament. When I'm in town, I'll stop by there but usually just to talk to Alex Brick about a cue.

Back home, I do like both Hardtimes in Bellflower and College Billiards in SD. College has survived in a town that has seen the demise of many a great pool rooms. It changed owners not too long ago (~1 year I think) and I have great hope that they'll attract all the SoCal action.

For NorCal, California Billiard Club is one of the finest rooms you'll ever walk into. 8 triple-shim Tournament Quality tables in "The Pit", in a seperate area (though fully visible) usually reserved for players. There's so much room between these tables you need a cell phone and binoculars to keep up with the action! 10 more double shimmed tables, also in great condition, PLUS ANOTHER 12 9-footers with buckets perfect for the recreational players. It has the best equipment you could ask for.
Add in 2 12' Snooker Tables and 1 10' heated Billard Table, a full-service kitchen, nice big bar, loads of space for rail birds and plenty of cute beer bunnies and it really is a fantastic room.

Hell, after writing that I need to run over there and hit some balls. :D

The Roundabout In Evansville Indiana...that Place Will Help Get Your Nit Game To Its Best :d

Tulsa Billiard Palace, Tulsa, OK

Billiards Down Under, Fort Smith, AR (new place... great tables, hope it makes it... but not likely with the bar box boom in this part of the world)

The Break, Cohokia, IL (only visited it one time, but was very impressed)

Later,
Bob

It's odd that a couple of you mention Clicks in Arlington. They are thinking about closing it down pretty soon and moving North a bit I believe. This is the one poolhall I visit regularly.

On that note, Clicks in Austin was very nice when compared to the Clicks in Arlington... been to both in the last month and the Austin one won hands down.

Hey, I was just wondering what everyone thinks on this topic... I live in Chicago and we have some pretty nice rooms here. The original Chris' Billiards (Milw. Ave) is a classic for the real players... G-Cue and City Pool Hall are good rooms with good food... Pro-Tyme Billiards in Orland Park (nice new room)... The Green Room in Downers Grove is nice when the A/C is working...
There are some other real nice rooms in Chicago I have never been to as well...

Some of my Favorite Rooms outside Chicago are Hawaiian Brians in Honolulu... South Philly Billiards (if its still there) in Philadelphia... Gas Lamp Billiard Palace in San Diego is nice too...

Rate your top 3 rooms... Heres mine

1. Chris' Billiards - Chicago (Old School)
2. Hawaiian Brians - Honolulu
3. South Philly Billiards - Philadelphia (another players room)

Let me know what u think...

Country Club USA in Chelmseford,MA

This thread has been dead for a while, just thought id keep it going in case anyone wants to put their $.02 in... maybe I will compile the inputs and post a poll so we can get a definitive answer...

Pool hall will have to be mentioned on at least 5 posts (by different AZers) to qualify for the poll...

Nominate your 3 rooms if you haven't done so already...
