best pool tables to buy

I've owned three tables. My first was a 9' National, which I think is no longer made. It was a very good table with an awesome ball return. Then I got a used 9' Brunswick Anniversary from a pool hall. My last and present table is an Ohlhausen Pro 8 with a return. I would say that the Brunswick was the best of the three with the best cushions and overall action. The Ohlhausen has the tightest pockets with lively cushions. The ball return is noisy. My next and final table will be a restored Brunswick from the 1950's.

You might keep an eye on eBay. I got a GCI there for $1100 (including a fair number of extras) a couple of months ago. With new Simonis on it, plays as well as any table I've hit on around NYC. Of course, to make the deal work, you need a "local" table. Shipping's probably not worth it. But you guys out on the Plains don't think anything about driving 200-300 miles for a good reason, right?

Hell, to get my GCI I had to drive 200 each way in a rusty old shortbed with 175K on it, heater blasting to keep it from boiling over ...

i want to buy a nine foot table that plays tight and banks and kicks accuratly....to develop shot making and over all play.........what are difference on tables trying to achieve the goal off a better shotmaking...i do typically play on a bar box....but have easy access for that at other times

I am an "8" rated player by handicap but a "10" in person. I have played over fifty years and owned a couple of custom made eight footers. I then migrated to a seven foot Viking Monarch Cougar Model. With 860 Simonis cloth, I played as Captain at a "7" in Michigan Bush League, finishing 13th in the Nationals. I then went to a Diamond seven footer and loved it for five years. I am now installing a new Diamond nine footer Pro. I love the tight pockets on the pro cut table because they make you focus more than a wider pocket such as the Gold Crown. GC's are much too forgiving in the corner pockets to suit me. Also. I am a Bank Player more than any other game and I love the true roll in single or multiple rail banks on my Diamond table. No doubt the Gabriel is a top of the line table. I will probably never own one because I could never imagine getting rid of my new Diamond.

Good luck,

Cross Side Larry
