The first live pool event that I know of was the 1987 Brunswick scotch doubles invitational.
Balukas / Miz
Hopkins / Loreejon
Sigel/Ewa
Belinda / Rempe
On paper due to Balukas’s dominance in the women’s game in 1987, she and Mizerak were favored.
As usual, Sigel won. Ewa played great, but Sigel was the best partner, even when he didn’t leave her a great shot. At 27:27, he yells out, “PARTNER!” when she pockets a bank that he accidentally left her. I ended up yelling the same thing in every scotch doubles tournament I’ve played.
I think the best 9-ball team would have to have the lead player that has / had incredible recovery shotmaking, but played proper, clean patterns. He can’t be leaving the other player a lot of blood testers. So, if I fantasized a tournament today , I’d take prime:
Albin Ouschan / Jasmine Ouschan
Sigel / Corr
JL Chang / Siming Chen
Buddy Hall / Allison Fisher
Joshua Filler / Kelly Fisher
FSR / Gerda Hofstatter
Fedor / Kristina
Efren / Rubilen
