in the past I have used playing cards to help level the slate any thoughts on what works best I would think if the shims were soft wood they may break down. The problem with the cards is getting them between the base frame and the slate wood under frame.

My new used gold crown 1 has doweled slate so they may not need to be leveled. Does anyone have input on the doweled slate needing minor adjustments?

ummm....use wood shims available at ACE/ home depot etc ....they start very thin almost the size of a playing card and taper to larger ...you need the taper because as you are leveling you just pound the shim in a bit more ...if you use cards then you have to lift the slate by some other means to put the cards in ...the wood won't break down unless you live in a rainforest ...at the end break off all the shims ....and your good to go ....

use the leveling 3piece slate sticky and you should be fine...

i use some cards to level the frame but sometimes it is off by the thickness of a piece of paper on the machinest level....

you most certainly will have to level the doweled slate ....and in some respects it is harder because the slate will try to seperate on you as you adjust ...
