Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am relatively new to Billiards, so may be someone out there can give me some sound advise.

I would like to purchase a Billiard cue but I am not sure what to buy as there are different queues (i.e. for different disciplines like Snooker, Carambol, American Pool etc.) I have seen that a "typical" Billiard pool is 148cm long, weigh 180z and has a tip (not sure whether this is the correct word - sorry) of 13mm. I did see however Snooker and Carambol queues with 140 - 142 cm and with a 9-11mm tip. I thought that an 11mm tip would be better to have more "effect" (again I do not know the right word here) on the ball.

Any tips out there as to what is the most siutable queue for billiard ? I am more interested around weight and tip size here...Is for example a snooker queue or a carambol queue siutable for billiard ? i.e. in terms of "effect", speed and accuracy.

Also, being a beginner, I thought not to spend more than 100$ on a queue to see what best siutes me - Any tips what 100 bucks get you for a queue, I mean a decent queue....

thanks in advance

Colin

If you're playing 8-ball or 9-ball most prefer to have a larger tip 12mm+, mainly because you get less unwanted spin. Using a smaller tip may help a little when you want alot of spin but the majority of times when you want none any slight miscue will be amplified with a smaller tip. In snooker a smaller tip is used due to smaller balls though alot of players use an oversized tip. You should be able to find something decent for 100$ find something YOU like (feel, wieght, look etc.) Where you're new to the game using the same cue consistantly rather than a differant house cue all the time will make more of a difference then an expensive cue will.

a snooker cue would be too light to play 3 cushion billiards with. with your price point that low, i suggest a fury cue. a friend of mine bought one for about $80, and he thinks it hits very well.
